With the release of DU UG application form 2025 on June 17, many students are confused about what to fill in the domicile section. In this article, we will discuss what is the domicile section in DU UG form 2025 and what you should fill there. One of the common worries students have is that selecting the wrong option might affect their chances of getting a DU seat. Here, we discuss all of that and more.
Domicile refers to the place of a student's permanent residence. Why should there be confusion over this in the DU form? This confusion comes when a student is living in Noida which falls under Delhi NCR but studies in Delhi schools has to enter the state of domicile in the DU application form. There is much uncertainty on whether to choose "Delhi" or the state where they actually live, like Uttar Pradesh or Haryana.
In reality, DU asks for domicile details just to understand where applicants are coming from; it does not impact the admission chances at any DU colleges. DU is a central University and hence domicile rules do not apply to its admission processes. Students are advised to read the entire article and hopefully by the end of this article, students will be able to clear all their doubts and inform their peers about the same.
The domicile section in Delhi University form simply refers to the state where the student’s permanent residence is. This is primarily for information gathering. The domicile status is not affected for a student living away or studying away from his/her place of residence for study.
This confusion of domicile in DU UG application 2025 is seen most commonly among students around Delhi and Delhi NCR. Let me clarify this, there are many students who live in the Delhi NCR region but commute everyday to their respective schools in Delhi. In this case, their domicile will be the state they live in. The Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) covers the entire capital territory of Delhi, along with parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Students are advised to check their home address carefully to figure out which state they belong to.
To put it very simply, no. When it comes to DU UG admission, the university is not partial to any students who have a domicile of Delhi. DU is a central university hence it is open to all students irrespective of domicile. DU admission for UG is purely based on a student's performance in the CUET exam and past academic performance in case of a tie.
However, for DU PG admission, students who have completed their undergraduate from Delhi University have a separate cutoff from those who havent studied in DU. In the DU PG cutoff, there are separate cutoffs for students (C1 for students who completed their UG from universities other than DU and C2 for students of DU).
The University of Delhi uses the domicile details shared by the candidates for internal analytics and to prepare statistical data only. The DU, being a central university, does not favour any students with a domicile of Delhi over other students.
Some students may think choosing Delhi as a domicile may increase their chances of securing a seat in Delhi University. But that is not the case here, the university asks this question just to figure out how many students applied to DU from each state. This information helps DU in terms of their internal data keeping and preparation of admission statistics only.
To figure out your domicile first take out any of the documents such as your residential electricity bill, aadhar card, voter ID or any other address proof for your permanent residence. Then, check your address carefully. The state you belong to will be mentioned close to the PIN code your address has. It is very important to ignore where your school is located and only focus on your permanent residence for accurate domicile information.
