225 Hostel Seats for 24,703 Seats in Delhi University South Campus

Only Lady Shri Ram College, Maitreyi College and Sri Venkateswara College provide hostel facilities for students inside their campus for 225 hostel seats. In other words, one person will be allotted hostel beds for every 110 seats in DU south campus. While, the remaining 24,478 students will have to look for accommodations in PGs, private hostels and rented rooms on their own.

0.91% Hostel Seats in Delhi University South Campus

Despite being the home for some of the top colleges like Gargi College, Lady Shri Ram College, Kamala Nehru College, Sri Venkateswara College, and more, the Delhi University south campus accommodates only 0.91% of students in its hostel facilities. The DU south campus will allocate hostel seats for these 0.91% students based on their merit.

Why South Campus Students Have to Stay in PGs and Private Accommodations?

DU south campus offers hostel accommodations for only 225 seats leaving thousands of students with no other alternative than staying at PGs, private hostels or rented rooms. The cost of living in PGs, and private rooms can go upto Rs. 15,000/- per month for students. Considering the demand for PGs around south campus, areas like Satya Niketan Delhi became the hub for PGs and private accommodations by operating more than 200 accommodations.

Recently, a five storied building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area resulting in the debate of safety and security for students in the PGs and private accommodation areas. Students are advised to check the safety regulations, condition of the building before moving into the private accommodation areas.
