The JAM exam is divided into three sections, A, B and C. Only Section A has negative marking. For every 1 mark question in IIT JAM the negative marking is -⅓ and for 2 marks questions the negative marking is -⅔. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions in IIT JAM 2026. The IIT JAM exam has negative marking in section A. However, there are no negative marking schemes in section B and C. If you answer wrong to any one mark question in the JAM exam, -⅓ marks will be deducted and -⅔ for incorrectly answering any 2 marks question. While calculating the IIT JAM score, students must consider the sections the questions are from to predict the marks as accurately as possible.

If your IIT JAM status shows “Under Scrutiny: Defect Rectification Done”, it means your correction is submitted and under review. Keep checking your portal, once verified, it’ll change to “Accepted” or “Found Defective.” Updates usually appear within 2–3 days before the portal closes.

For IIT JAM BIOTECHNOLOGY EXAMINATION the 4 subjects are PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICS AND BIOLOGY and the candidate must be graduated with other criteria. Nowhere in the eligibilities it is needed to have mathematics in +2 level.
