The University of Delhi has allowed two affiliated colleges to admit UG students based on their Class 12 marks. This special approval has been granted to two off campus DU colleges, Aditi mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College. These two colleges can now conduct their own merit based admission in physical (offline) mode using Class 12 marks alongside CUET scores.

This is a major departure from DU’ standard admission framework, which strictly follows CUET scores and online Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) across all affiliated colleges. This decision was taken to fill seats that have consistently remained vacant despite multiple rounds of CUET-based CSAS counselling. Students are advised to read the entire article to learn more about the admission process and other important details.

Which DU Colleges are offering Direct Admission?

The two colleges offering direct admission under DU are Bhagini Nivedita College (Located in Najafgarh), and Aditi Mahavidyalaya (Located in Bawana). Both of these DU off campus colleges are offering undergraduate courses such as BA, BCom and BSc based on Class 12 marks. It is worth remembering that admission to these colleges are based on availability of seats. Students who either didn't register for CUET or didn't get allotted a seat through CSAS are eligible to apply.

Why Delhi University Made this Exception?

Entry to Delhi University UG programmes always had just one door, the CUET exam. Then why did the university make such an exception? The reason is that multiple rounds of DU CSAS counselling has failed to fill seats in these colleges year after year, despite having one of the lowest cutoff requirements. In previous admission cycles, Bhagini Nivedita College had roughly 700 out of 985 seats vacant, while Aditi Mahavidyalaya witnessed nearly 40% (approx. 600 out of 1,000 seats) sit empty.

Both these colleges are off-campus, both colleges admit only women, both located at rural/outlying areas of Delhi (Bawana and Najafgarh), all these reasons make these colleges on the lower side of the preference list of students. It has also been shared by college officials that many local female students from nearby government schools and rural areas do not register for CUET due to concerns about commuting to far-off campuses, leaving high-scoring Class 12 students out of the central admission process.

Criticism and Demands for a Uniform Policy

The decision has drawn criticism from groups like the Indian National Teachers Congress (INTEC) and the Academics for Action and Development Teachers' Association (AADTA). Teacher bodies argue that thousands of seats remain vacant across several other off-campus colleges as well. They have urged the Vice-Chancellor to establish a uniform, transparent mechanism for direct admissions across all struggling colleges, rather than granting selective permissions to just two institutions. While CUET 2026 remains the primary admission pathway for DU, this special move offers a crucial lifeline to two off-campus women's colleges and local rural students.
