In the table below, we can see that the most number of institutions in 11 categories are from Tamil Nadu. The table also contains a number of colleges from Tamil Nadu for the year 2024 in NIRF Ranking. However, the number of colleges with respect to the year 2024 has decreased in most of the categories. Still, the colleges from the Tamil Nadu status surpasses all other states in terms of number of colleges.

Last year, the NIRF ranking was done for a total of 16 categories. Tamil Nadu had a maximum number of colleges in 10 categories. This year, Tamil Nadu managed to have the maximum number of colleges in 11 categories out of 17 categories. Let's check out the categories where Tamil Nadu takes a lead.

List of Institutions from Tamil Nadu Under NIRF 2025 Overall Ranking Category

From the table below, we can see that there are various colleges that have enhanced themselves and secured better positions with respect to the last few years. Also, there are few colleges that lost their position this year. The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is the newest addition in the list which was not listed in the NIRF 2024 ranking.

NIRF University Ranking For Tamil Nadu

There are 20 universities that managed to secure their ranks under top 100 universities. Institutions such as Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Central University of Tamil Nadu secured good ranking positions with respect to the previous year. Many such as VIT, Anna University and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences witnessed slip in their rankings in comparison to the previous year

NIRF College Ranking 2025 For Tamil Nadu

Out of 457 participating colleges, 33 Tamil Nadu colleges are able to make their positions under the top 100 NIRF 2025 college ranking. There are a total 13 colleges from the Tamil Nadu state under top 50 NIRF college ranking. In the NIRF college ranking 2025, there are 6 new colleges that managed to enter in the top 100 positions.

NIRF Engineering Ranking 2025 - Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has 14 colleges in this list. Last year also, all these colleges were there in the NIRF ranking list.

NIRF Management Ranking - Tamil Nadu

Under the Management category, there are 12 Tamil Nadu institutions in the NIRF 2025 ranking. However, there is not a single institution in the top 10 under this category. There are two new institutions in the recent ranking, which were not present in the last years’ ranking.

NIRF Medical Ranking 2025 - Tamil Nadu

8 colleges from Tamil Nadu managed to get featured in the list of top medical institutes. In the year 2024, there were only 7 colleges in this list.

NIRF Research Institution Ranking 2025 - Tamil Nadu

There are 7 colleges from the state under this category. However, this number is less than the previous year. In 2024, there were 9 colleges under the research institution category.

NIRF Architecture and Planning Ranking - Tamil Nadu

Out of the 40 institutions, 5 colleges belong to Tamil Nadu in this category. Last year, there were 6 colleges in this ranking. B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology was ranked in the 40th place.

NIRF Agriculture & Allied Sectors - Tamil Nadu

The S.R.M. Institute of Science and Technology is the new addition under the agriculture category. Also, one college was removed from this list in comparison to last year. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University ranked 6th and top from the Tamil Nadu state. All the other colleges are able to upgrade their ranking as compared to the year 2024.

NIRF Innovation Ranking 2025 - Tamil Nadu

Out of 10 colleges under the innovation ranking, 2 colleges are from Tamil Nadu. This number is higher than any other state. These two colleges were also present in the 2024 ranking.

NIRF 2025 State Public University - Tamil Nadu

There are 10 universities from Tamil Nadu in this category. However, Anna University, which topped the ranking last year, dropped to second place. Also, Periyar University slips from 25 to 40 and Madurai Kamaraj University from 26 to 31. Alagappa University, University of Madras and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University are the names of such institutions that have upgraded their positions in comparison to the last year.

NIRF SDG Ranking 2025 -Tamil Nadu

The Sustainable Development Goal is the newly added category in the NIRF ranking. In this category, two colleges are from Tamil Nadu. IIT Madras tops the NIRF 2025 SDG ranking and the other college is SRM institute of Science and Technology positioned at 4th.
