HSEE 2020 - Indian Institute of Technology Madras has released official brochure of HSEE 2020 on November 04, 2019, at hsee.iitm.ac.in. IIT Madras will conduct HSEE 2020 exam on April 19. Candidates who wish to take admission in M.A programmes offered by the institute can fill the application form of HSEE 2020 from December 11, 2019. The mode of application will be in online mode only. The last date to submit the fee of HSEE 2020 application form is notified to be January 22 (for online payment) and January 23 (for offline payment). The application fee of HSEE 2020 can be paid either by credit card, debit card, net banking or through the Indian Bank Challan generated during the registration process. The admit card of HSEE 2020 will be released March 18, 2020. The entrance exam of HSEE 2020 will be conducted by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras.
A total of 52 seats are divided equally amongst M.A Development Studies and M.A English programme offered through HSEE; each stream has 26 seats. The institute conducts an entrance examination for admission in integrated MA programmes for Development Studies and English Studies. The admission process will start with the release of application forms on December 11, 2019. HSEE 2020 will be conducted on April 19, 2020. Based on the candidates' performance in the entrance examination, a merit list will be prepared and the candidates meeting the HSEE 2020 cut off will be shortlisted for counselling and finalising the admission process.
Applicants must check the eligibility criteria of HSEE 2020 before filling the application form. HSEE 2020 eligibility criteria mention the minimum academic qualification, age limit and other requirements needed for admission in integrated M.A Development Studies programme offered by IIT Madras. Any candidate who qualifies the entrance examination but does not meet the eligibility criteria of HSEE 2020 will not be offered a seat by the institute.
Candidates applying for admission in M.A programmes offered through HSEE 2020 must have one of the following academic qualifications to be considered eligible. Given below are the list of academic qualifications required to be eligible to apply for HSEE 2020 admission.
Qualified 10+2 from any education board including CBSE, ICSE and State Boards recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
Qualified Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Board Examination conducted by a Board or a University recognised by AIU
Qualified final year examination of the two-year course of Joint Services Wing conducted by National Defence Academy
Qualified Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling
Qualified Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination
Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.

Candidates who have completed their Class XII from outside India must provide certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination. In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.
Candidates belonging to General and OBC category must have at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate of the subjects at the 10+2 board examination or equivalent qualifying examination. For candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories, there is a relaxation of five per cent marks in aggregate of the subjects at the qualifying examination to be considered eligible for HSEE 2020.
(Note: Where only letter grades are mentioned in the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining. In case the candidate does not provide such a certificate, the decision of the HSEE admission committee regarding his/her eligibility shall be final.)
As per the eligibility criteria of HSEE 2020, the General and OBC categories candidates applying for HSEE 2020 need to be born on or after October 1, 1995. Candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories will be offered an age relaxation of 5 years as per the HSEE eligibility criteria 2020, which means the reserved category candidates born on or after October 1, 1990, will be considered eligible to apply for HSEE 2020.
Candidates may note that the High School Examination Certificate (Class 10th Board Examination Passing Certificate) will be referred for ensuring eligibility criteria of HSEE 2020. Those who fail to submit the Class 10th Board Passing Certificate in a claim of their age along with the HSEE 2020 application form will be deemed disqualified from the HSEE 2020 admissions process.
Candidates who have qualified their Class 12 board examination outside India will also be considered eligible for HSEE 2020 provided they produce a certificate from AIU claiming their academic qualification.
Candidates who are in the final year of their 10+2 examination system will also be considered eligible for HSEE 2020 provided if they meet the eligibility criteria.
Those who have qualified the 12th board examination as private candidates, according to the HSEE 2020 eligibility criteria, they need to have at least qualified their 10th board examination through a public examination system.
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras will release the application form of HSEE 2020 on December 11, 2019, in online mode. Candidates interested in appearing for Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination 2020 will be required to fill and submit HSEE 2020 application form before January 22 (for online payment0 and January 23 (for offline payment). Step 1 - Online Registration
In order to fill the application form of HSEE 2020, candidates need to complete an online registration process first.
The online registration for HSEE 2020 application requires filling-in the mandatory information including name, email address and mobile number.
Once the HSEE application registration is over, candidates will receive a confirmation mail in the inbox of email and message box of mobile number mentioning the HSEE 2020 registration number and password.

Name of the candidate
Candidate should provide their actual name as recorded in the Class 10th Passing Certificate/Marksheet. The name should be entered in capital letters and between first, middle and last name, one block gap should be left.
Name of Parents/Guardian
Candidate should mention the name of parents/guardian exactly the same as provided in Class 10th Passing Certificate/Marksheet.
Candidates should choose the respective category from the drop-down menu mentioning General, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories. The category will not be changed, once filled.
Persons with Disability
The candidates who have a 40 per cent impairment either locomotor or visual, they will be considered under PwD category.

Date of Birth
Candidates need to pick the exact date, month and year of their birth-date as recorded in the Class 10th Passing Certificate/Marksheet.

An active mobile number is required to be entered. All the related communication will be made via this number.

Candidates after filling all the details including uploading required documents need to pay the application fee 0f HSEE 2020. The payment can be done in both online or offline mode. The online payment can be done using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking, while offline can be done using Indian Bank e-Challan. Additionally, the service charges of the Bank will be Rs. 40/-.

Step 5 - Submitting Application Form
Candidates after paying the application fee of HSEE 2020 need to submit the form in online mode only. It should be noted that no changes can be made once the application fee for HSEE 2020 is paid and the form has been submitted. Candidates can submit the HSEE 2020 application form by the second week of January 2020.
IIT Madras has announced the HSEE 2020 exam centres along with the official admission brochure. IIT Madras has released the exam pattern of HSEE 2020 for the candidates who wish to appear in Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination. Candidates can go through the HSEE 2020 exam pattern in order to get an overview of the examination. According to the HSEE exam pattern 2020, IIT Madras examination will have two parts- Part I and Part II. The total time duration of HSEE 2020 will be three hours. Part I will be held in online mode for 150 minutes. Part II further will be held in offline mode for 30 minutes. The Part I will have MCQ questions from the following sections- English and Comprehension Skill, Analytical and Quantitative Ability, General Studies, and Environment and Ecology. Part II will test the knowledge of writing skills via Essay Writing on a general topic. Candidates appearing for the entrance examination can go through the syllabus of HSEE 2020 to get a fair idea about what to study and how much to prepare for the IIT Madras administered Humanities and Social Science Examination. The conducting body has released HSEE 2020 syllabus along with releasing the official brochure of Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination. According to HSEE syllabus 2020, candidates need to prepare for subjects of English, General Studies, Analytical Ability and Qualitative Ability. Candidates through the given syllabus of HSEE 2020 will be able to prepare for the examination in a better way.
Candidates can solve the sample papers of HSEE 2020 in order to measure their preparation. HSEE 2020 sample papers will help candidates to understand the structure and format of the HSEE question paper. Given below in the table are the previous year question papers which candidates can practice to boost their preparation for the entrance examination.
Candidates who will appear in the entrance examination can check the answer key of HSEE 2020 after the commencement of the test. HSEE 2020 answer key will be published in online mode in two phases. The first phased answer key of HSEE 2020 will be a provisional and the second phase will be the final answer key. However, IIT Madras has not released any HSEE answer key for the entrance examination. In case, the HSEE answer key 2020 is released, the same will be provided here.
After the commencement of the entrance examination, candidates can check the result of HSEE 2020 on May 15. HSEE 2020 result will be released in the form of merit list. The result of HSEE 2020 will be based on the performance of candidates in the entrance examination. However, the merit list of HSEE 2020 will be prepared based on the names of those candidates who will score more than the cutoff marks. The HSEE 2020 results mention the roll number, candidate’s name and marks scored in the test paper. It must be noted that separate performance cards will not be sent individually to the candidates.
Re-grading and Re-Totalling in HSEE
As the part 1 of the HSEE Exam is administered by computers, candidates should not expect for re-grading and re-totalling of Part I. Also, in “Essay Writing” part, the grading is done in a highly confidential and impersonal way, which involves multiple checks. Thus, there will be NO re-grading and re-totalling. Apart from this, answer scripts also can't be shown to candidates. Only the evaluators can see them.
Based on the marks obtained in the entrance examination, the merit list of HSEE 2020 will be released on May 15, 2020. Candidates may note that a separate HSEE 2020 merit list will be prepared for each of the categories - General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PWD. A common rank list of HSEE 2020 will be made including those who will score at least 50% marks in the entrance examination. Candidates belonging to OBC NCL category must score at least 45% marks in order to get featured in the HSEE 2020 rank list.
Candidates are required to clear the cut off of HSEE 2020 in order to appear in the merit list and rank list. IIT Madras will be determining HSEE 2020 cutoff for shortlisting candidates on the basis of their entrance examination scores. The cutoff of HSEE 2020 is the minimum marks required for admissions into the postgraduate programmes. Candidates who meet the HSEE 2020 cut off scores (cutoff marks) will be called for the admission counselling and seat allotment process. The process of HSEE 2020 counselling will start from May 16, 2020, after the merit list release will be released. Candidates who will meet the qualifying cutoff marks will be allotted a seat in Integrated M.A programme offered by IIT Madras. Candidates who will be called for HSEE counselling 2020 will be needed to get their documents verified at the time of allocation of seats in IIT Madras. Once the eligibility criteria and related documents have been verified, a seat for the integrated PG programme will be allocated to the candidate. Those who do not report to IIT Madras in-person at the time of HSEE 2020 counselling will deem to lose their candidature for HSEE admissions.

The university admits the candidates based on the seats reserved for them under the reservation rules of Government of India. The categories which are included under the reservation relaxation criteria are SC, ST, PwD and OBC- NCL.
