Jaidev: My name is Jaidev, and I am a final-year B. Com student at Vellore Institute of Technology Chennai. I serve as the Program Representative and I’m also a member of the Academic Council, which gives me the opportunity to actively contribute to student–faculty coordination. Alongside my degree, I’ve completed 8 out of 13 ACCA papers, as I’m deeply interested in finance and accounting.
VIT Chennai was my first choice because I wanted a place that balances academics, professional growth, and leadership exposure. The university’s reputation, structured curriculum, and strong placement support really stood out to me. I felt this was a campus where I could grow not just academically, but also personally.

Careers360: What aspects of campus life stood out to you when you first joined the institute? Additionally, what do you consider to be the major USPs of the campus?
Jaidev: When I first joined, what impressed me most was the discipline and structure of the academic system. At the same time, the campus felt vibrant and diverse. Interacting with students from different backgrounds gave me a broader perspective.
The biggest strengths of the campus, in my opinion, are:
• A curriculum that connects theory with practical learning
• Opportunities to take up leadership roles
• Active clubs and student-driven initiatives
• A balanced focus on academics and extracurricular activities
Careers360: To what extent do you feel the curriculum aligns with current industry and research requirements?
Jaidev: I genuinely feel the curriculum aligns well with current industry requirements. Since I’m pursuing ACCA alongside my degree, I can see how concepts overlap and complement each other. Subjects are taught in a way that encourages understanding, not just memorization.
Assignments, presentations, and projects push us to think practically. It prepares us for real-world challenges rather than just exams.
Careers360: Are academic resources such as laboratories, library facilities, and digital platforms adequate and accessible?
Jaidev: The academic resources are easily accessible and helpful. The library has both physical and digital resources, which is useful especially when preparing for professional exams like ACCA. The digital platforms make it easy to access study materials and stay updated. Overall, I’ve never felt limited in terms of academic support or resources.
Careers360: How approachable and supportive are faculty members beyond regular class hours, based on your experience?
Jaidev: One thing I truly appreciate is how approachable the faculty members are. They are open to discussions beyond classroom hours and genuinely care about student progress. As a Program Representative, I interact with faculty regularly, and I’ve seen their willingness to listen to student concerns and suggestions. That support system makes a big difference.
Careers360: How would you assess the quality of campus infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, and common facilities?
Jaidev: The infrastructure is modern and comfortable. Classrooms are well-equipped, labs are functional, and common spaces are maintained properly. The campus environment feels professional, which motivates you to stay focused and productive.
Careers360: What opportunities does VIT Chennai provide for student involvement in clubs, chapters, cultural activities, and sports?
Jaidev: There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, clubs, chapters, cultural events, sports, and academic initiatives. Students are encouraged to take responsibility and lead events.
These platforms help build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills, which are just as important as academics.
Careers360: Are you actively involved in any student organization or extracurricular activity? Jaidev: If yes, how has it contributed to your personal or professional development?
I’ve actively taken up multiple leadership roles at Vellore Institute of Technology Chennai, which have greatly shaped my growth. As the Program Representative, I coordinate between faculty and 80+ students, managing attendance and academic communication. I also served as a Sponsorship Organizer for Techno VIT’25, leading a 15-member team and handling sponsor outreach and data. As Secretary of the EEP Club, I coordinated activities for 60+ members, and I organized an E-Sports event with 326 participants using Excel trackers for data accuracy.
Additionally, I’ve contributed as a Food Committee Lead (budgeting), Discipline Committee Member, and event team member. These roles strengthened my leadership, coordination, and analytical skills.
Careers360: In your view, does hostel life contribute positively to peer learning and community building?
Jaidev: Although I’m not a hosteler, I still experience strong peer learning through classroom discussions, group projects, and campus activities. The collaborative environment encourages students to share knowledge and support each other academically. The sense of community is strong, and it positively contributes to overall development.
Careers360: How effective are mentoring, counselling, and career guidance services offered to students?
Jaidev: The mentoring system and career services are structured and helpful. Placement training sessions, resume workshops, and mock interviews prepare students for corporate expectations. There is consistent support to ensure students are industry-ready by the time they graduate.
