Careers360: Please tell us about the VIT Chennai campus and the reasons that influenced your decision to choose it.
Harini M: The campus environment at VIT Chennai is active, diverse, and student-focused. When I first joined, the structured academic system especially the subject selection and credit system stood out because it gave flexibility and choice. The campus culture, clubs, and regular events make it easy to connect with people and explore interests beyond academics. My decision to choose the campus was influenced by its BBA program offerings, including the US RIT pathway, which provided global exposure. Hearing positive experiences from my cousins and family members who studied here also gave me confidence in the learning environment. Overall, it felt like a place where I could grow academically while being involved in campus life.
Careers360: What course are you pursuing at VIT Chennai, and why did you choose this particular specialisation?
Harini M: I am pursuing a BBA program because I’ve always been interested in how businesses work and how management decisions are made. Growing up around my family business and watching my father handle operations, people, and decision-making sparked my curiosity about the business world. The curriculum actually sounded good and interesting to me at the start because it connected classroom theory with real business ideas like strategy and management. Since I’ve always been interested in leadership and business, it felt like the right choice.
Careers360: Where did you complete your summer internship, what was its duration, and how were you selected?
Harini M: I completed my summer internship at Uday Tech Engineering in Ambattur for a duration of three months. I was selected through a referral from a fellow business associate of my father. During the internship, I gained practical exposure to workplace responsibilities and professional environments, which helped me understand how organizational processes function in real-world settings. The experience strengthened my communication, adaptability, and work discipline, complementing my academic learning.
Careers360: Could you elaborate on the support you received from faculty members, peers, and the placement cell during your internship?
Harini M: I received meaningful support from my faculty guide, who helped me understand how to approach the internship professionally and encouraged me to make the most of the learning opportunity. Informal discussions with peers also allowed me to share experiences and perspectives.
Careers360: How relevant was the internship to your academic programme?
Harini M: The internship was quite relevant to my academic programme, as it exposed me to real-world business operations. I was able to observe aspects related to business strategy, ERP systems, and payroll management, which connected well with what had studied. Also, gaining insight into the functioning of engineering laser marking machines broadened my understanding of how different departments work together in an organization. This practical exposure helped bridge the gap between theory and application.
Careers360: How was your internship experience overall? What were your major learnings from it?
Harini M: Overall, the internship was challenging but highly valuable. Working full-time hours from 9 to 6 introduced me to a disciplined professional routine. Rotating exposure across departments allowed me to see how different functions contribute to organizational success. Observing weekly sales meetings, goal-setting discussions, and HR payroll processes gave me a real-world perspective on how businesses operate. The experience helped me develop time management, adaptability, and professional responsibility, while also giving me a clearer understanding of workplace expectations.
