The National Testing Agency specifies that an aspirant can select a maximum of 5 CUET subjects in the application form. The NTA has listed a total of 37 subjects for the CUET UG 2026. Beyond the CUET UG 2026 subject selection limit, no candidate can choose additional subjects. However, a student may select fewer CUET 2026 subjects in the application form.

Choosing the CUET UG subject is a vital part of the whole admission process. Thus, students must understand all the criteria and rules before giving preferences. Candidates are also advised to check the subject combination of different universities to select the subjects.
The NTA offers a total of 37 subjects through the CUET UG exam. An aspirant can check the CUET subject list to know what subjects are included in the exam. Here you can see the overview of the CUET subject distribution.
CUET Language Subject- NTA determines 13 languages in the CUET exam. Candidates may take any one or two languages from the given options, depending on their language eligibility. Also, an aspirant can take the CUET exam in any of these languages. They must have filled in their medium of language in the application.
CUET Domain Subject- The National Testing Agency has identified 23 major subjects that are domain-specific. The domain subject included subjects from streams such as Arts, Commerce, Science, and Engineering.
CUET General Subject- There is one subject for the general test- General Aptitude Test. Other than the subjects mentioned under the domain-specific, admission will be decided based on the marks of GAT belonging to Arts, Commerce, Science, and Engineering streams.

A candidate can select up to 5 subjects in the CUET UG exam. They may select either 3, 4, or 5, depending upon their eligibility. However, the CUET UG subject limit is 5 only. No candidate can add more than 5 subject preferences.
Choosing the right subject for the CUET UG exam is a crucial step for admission. Any wrong choices in the CUET UG subject selection will directly impact the admission of the candidates.
Aspirants must select the subject that they have studied in class 12.
Must also give preferences of interest.
They must have gone through the subject eligibility of the university where one wants admission.
Aspirants should also consider their strengths and scoring potential while selecting subjects, as CUET UG is a competitive exam.
As we know, the maximum number of subjects an aspirant can choose is 5. They may also choose a subject less than 5. Candidates will be charged some amount for three subjects as the CUET UG fees. One who wishes to apply for more than 3 he/she will be required to pay an additional amount for each subject. Here is the summary of subject-wise fees for all the categories.

For the subject combination, candidates need to check the subject combination of the respective CUET participating universities for 2026. All the participating universities determine their CUET UG subject selection rules for the convenience of the applicants. Besides these CUET Subject combinations, they may select some other subjects too.
