The CUET PG English exam is not just about knowing the right answers rather it’s about answering them efficiently within the given time limit. Most aspirants end up not being able to finish the paper within the time limit, not because they lack knowledge, but because they fail to organize their time effectively. A planned strategy for the exam can enhance performance. Below is a step-by-step analysis of how the candidates should go about the paper on the exam day.
Revise: Rather than trying to understand new ideas during the last-minute cram, concentration should be devoted to revision. Go over quickly literary theories, major literary periods, and devices of poetry because these topics commonly include direct questions in the examination.
Avoid Overloading Your Mind: The night before the exam, avoid cramming and instead, ensure you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep for peak mental performance.
Ignoring Literary Criticism & Theory: Many students skip critical theories, which hold 20-25% weightage. Dedicate at least 30% of study time to theories like New Criticism, Psychoanalysis, Postmodernism, and Deconstruction.
Rote Learning Instead of Conceptual Understanding: Memorizing literary movements and theories without understanding their application can be ineffective. Connecting theories to real-life examples and literary works enhances retention.
Ignoring Negative Marking Risks: Blind guessing leads to excessive negative marking. Using the elimination technique before attempting a guess can minimize score deductions.
