COVID-19 Impact: States announce revised academic calendar, exam schedules for universities

The COVID-19 outbreak has affected the universities examinations and other academic activities around the country. All the colleges and institutes are shut from the time the first nationwide lockdown was implemented in the country. Some colleges and universities even closed all academic and non academic activities, way before the announcement of first lockdown to contain the spread of the virus. It has raised a lot of concerns among the students fraternity. Several states have now come up with agendas and plans to resolve these issues, while some are gearing up to come up to a conclusion fast.

University Grants Commission, statutory body under Ministry of Human Resource Development has earlier formed a seven member committees under seven members and is headed by R.C.Kuhad, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Haryana. The commission has suggested guidelines for issues related to the examinations. Various state and central universities are taking cognizance over the suggested guidelines and forming an action committee to decide the fate of the examination and academic activities.

Delhi University has formed a 15 member working committee to oversee examination related issues. Telanaga and Maharashtra state governments have decided to advance first and second year students to next year or semester. Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh Government has released their academic calendar on May 8. The academic session or all the students, except first year students will start from July 6. For the first year students, the classes will start from August 17. All the admission process will be finished by August 14.

Maharashtra

The state of Maharashtra has decided to promote the first and second years students without any examinations. The final year students have to appear in the examination which will be conducted in due course of time. The three hours examination is expected to reduce into a two hours examination. The 80 marks theory paper is also highly likely to reduce into a 50 marks theory examination paper.

The CET for undergraduate programmes will be conducted in between July 1 to July 30, while for postgraduate programmes will be conducted in between 20 to July 31.

Telangana

The Telangana government has decided to promote all the undergraduate students in the colleges and universities, except for the final year students. However, the students with backlogs have to clear the same next year.

“Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) chairman T Papi Reddy said that although degree examinations will be conducted, no student of 1st and 2nd year will be detained,” said an official statement released in social media handle of Osmania University
