The National Testing Agency (NTA) has recorded a total of 14,92,764 CUET UG 2026 registrations, according to a report by Navbharat Times. The report also highlighted that the highest number of registrations was for the English, with approximately 12.43 lakh registrations. Additionally, around 8.84 lakh aspirants opted for the General Aptitude Test (GAT) this year.

The CUET UG 2026 registration window was closed on February 4. With the increase in the number of CUET UG registrations, it can be assumed that competition will also intensify. Uttar Pradesh is expected to see a large competition as it has the highest registrations of 3.70 lakh students. The CUET UG 2026 will be conducted between May 11 and 31 for 37 papers.
According to the sources, NTA has recorded a total of 14,92,764 candidates’ registrations for the CUET UG. This year, a surge of 1 lakh registrations has been observed. There were a total CUET UG 13,54,699 registrations in 2025. With the increase in the number of candidates, competition has also increased this year.

The total number of registrations this year is higher than in previous years. Additionally, the number of registrations per subject has increased. Last year, the number of registrations for English was 10,75,452 candidates. This year also, English leads the subject list with approximately 12.43 lakh students. Candidates could choose up to 5 preferred subjects during the registration period. Most of the students opt for all five subjects. While many take three or four subjects based on their eligibility. English is the most commonly chosen paper, as almost all undergraduate programmes require or accept English compulsory language paper.
The General Aptitude Test appears to be a widely chosen subject after English. Applicants who selected all five preferred subjects often opted for GAT as well. The GAT is mostly chosen because many universities use it as part of the admissions criteria.
