Around 96.6% of candidates have been allotted one of their preferred cities for CUET UG 2026, as per NTA notice. The National Testing Agency has opened the window for CUET UG exam city selection on May 5. Students can choose their preferred CUET exam city till May 7. This happened as NTA previously released CUET city slip 2026 where students were allotted exam cities that were way too far from their preference, some even got CUET exam cities which they did not even select.

The updated CUET admit card 2026 will be released for students who decide to change their exam cities. NTA has also shared that 79% of students secured their very first choice of exam city, even as the agency navigated nearly 13,000 unique subject combinations across 35 nationwide shifts. A 3.4% margin of applicants got allotted outside their selected preferences, primarily in high-demand hubs like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi, where registration volumes reached approximately 43% of the national total.
Among the 15,68,866 registered students, and 67,56,321 test instances, 96.6% students got their preferred CUET exam city, as per the latest NTA notification. There have been 12,906 unique subject combinations recorded this year.
NTA mentioned in the notice that due to their balance in city choice, subject combinations and exam shifts, they were able to allot first choice to 79% students. The agency also shared the challenges they faced while securing proper CBT infrastructure and trained invigilation.
Most numbers of CUET registrations come from places like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, which makes 43% total registrations. NTA shared that managing close to 30 lakh test instances in these three states alone was challenging. Due to this, 3.4% students were allotted CUET test centres outside their preference.
To respond to students’ concerns, NTA has opened a window for CUET exam city re allocation for affected students. Students can apply for their preferred CUET exam city from May 5 to 7. As per the NTA data, the highest number of CUET registrations came from Madhya Pradesh with 98, 406 registrations, followed by Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, with 94,403, 83,408, 57,530, and 55,585 registrations respectively.
In CUET 2026, English (101) remains the most popular choice with over 1,26,4099 candidates. Other popular subjects in CUET UG 2026 include Chemistry , Physics, and the General Aptitude Test with 9,50,802, 9,13,691 and 9,12,406 registrations respectively.
