    Chitkara University Punjab is a private university established in 2010, recognized by the University of Grants Commission. Chitkara University Chandigarh has been ranked 20th, and 22nd in the Pharmacy and Architecture category respectively by the NIRF 2022 Ranking. The university offers UG, PG and Ph.D level courses in streams like Engineering, Computer Application, Management, Pharmacy, Commerce, Education, Arts, Mass Communication & Journalism, Medicine & Allied Sciences, etc. Chitkara University admissions are offered to students based on merit of the PI and marks obtained in the entrance examinations. Chitkara University course fee is between Rs 1.18 lakhs to Rs 17.50 lakhs. Currently she is pursuing her post graduation in Public Relations from York University, Toronto. In her interview to Careers360, Khyati shares her experience at Chitkara University. What was it like to be a part of the university? How did she choose this institute for Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication course?     Careers360: Tell us a bit about yourself.

    Answer: I am Khyati Kataria from Chandigarh, India and did my Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication from Chitkara University. I am currently pursuing my post graduation in Public Relations from York University, Toronto.

    Careers360: What were the factors that made you choose your institution/university?

    Answer: I considered a lot of factors while choosing the university including its ranking, faculty, infrastructure and most importantly placements and fee structure

    Careers360: Why did you choose to pursue your specialization?

    Answer: I had a key interest in content and print journalism, that is the reason why I opted for a specialisation in Journalism and Mass Communication. I opted for Public Relations for my post-graduation because PR offers the opportunity to be creative and innovative in developing strategies and campaigns that capture the attention of the target audience. This is particularly appealing to me because I enjoy working in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.

    Careers360: Please describe your journey till date.

    Answer: My journey has been great so far, full of ebbs and flows. But, I believe that change is the only constant in life and I enjoy going with the flow when it comes to my career as well.

    Careers360: What are the key learning points from your college days that have held you in good stead so far?

    Answer: College is really the golden period of your life and it teaches you a lot. Most importantly Chitkara taught me how to manage my time effectively and balance everything since college was demanding when it comes to assignments, classes and exams, as the university puts a lot of stress on doing academically well. While working on assignments, you also learn how to work in collaboration with people which is essential when it comes to working in industry.

    Careers360: Share a few good memories from your college days.

    Answer: Though most of my program was online due to the pandemic, I have really good memories of college. I got the opportunity to meet so many people and get to learn a lot from each one of them. These experiences have shaped me as an individual.

    Careers360: What were the extra curricular activities you participated in during your college days? How did they help in shaping your future and career path?

    Answer: I participated in MUNs and was also a part of the Toastmasters club, which is a global organization recognized by the United Nations. It really helped me hone my communication skills which helped me landing internships and other work opportunities. It also gave me the confidence to take part in more public speaking activities like group discussions and parliamentary debates.

    Careers360: How would you describe the support that you got from the faculty and team / classmates? How did it help?

    Answer: I worked on campus during my Bachelors so the faculty members were also my colleagues. The professors played a vital role in our learning experience and were very friendly. They gave us a room to express our opinions and learn beyond the classroom.

    Careers360: What was your placement season like? Any memories you would like to share with our readers?

    Answer: The university gave us a lot of opportunities to sit for interviews and land jobs. It was a great learning experience.

    Careers360: Your advice to future aspirants?

    Answer: Just take life as it comes, one step at a time.
