The incubation centre will focus on sectors that are shaping India's future, including drone technology, agritech, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and other emerging technologies.

Drones are transforming industries by enabling new applications in agriculture, logistics, infrastructure monitoring and other areas. Agritech is helping address challenges in farming through technology-based solutions, while renewable energy continues to play a crucial role in India's transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. Artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing are similarly driving the next wave of industrial innovation, creating opportunities for startups to develop globally competitive technologies with significant economic and societal impact.

By supporting innovation in these sectors, AIC-CIF aims to encourage solutions that address practical challenges while creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to build impactful ventures. Strengthening the Innovation Pipeline from Schools to Startups

The launch of AIC-CIF was accompanied by the introduction of ATL Sarthi Punjab, an initiative by the Atal Innovation Mission aimed at strengthening and mentoring Atal Tinkering Labs across the state.

Atal Tinkering Labs encourage school students to explore science, experiment with ideas, and develop problem-solving abilities through hands-on learning. Connecting this school-level innovation ecosystem with a university-based incubation centre creates a pathway where curiosity can eventually evolve into entrepreneurship.

As an ecosystem partner for ATL Sarthi Punjab, AIC-CIF will support schools through innovation workshops, design thinking bootcamps, startup exposure visits, prototyping support, access to makerspaces and advanced laboratories, mentor networks and industry interactions. These initiatives will help strengthen innovation capacities within schools while creating a seamless pathway from school-level tinkering to university-led entrepreneurship. The collaboration will also connect schools with startups, academia, industry and investors, creating a stronger innovation pipeline from school-level innovation to entrepreneurship.

The event also recognised outstanding ATL Sarthis from Punjab for their contribution to encouraging scientific thinking and innovation among students. Their efforts support the larger vision of Startup India, the Atal Innovation Mission and Viksit Bharat by building a culture of innovation from an early stage.

Bringing Together Leaders Across the Innovation Ecosystem

The launch ceremony brought together representatives from government, academia, industry, investor networks, and incubation ecosystems.

Amit Dhaka, IAS, Chief Executive Officer of Invest Punjab, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The ceremony was also attended by Prateek Deshmukh, Program Lead, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and Deepakshi Jindal from the Atal Innovation Mission. They were joined by Dr. Ashok Chitkara, Chancellor of Chitkara University, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-founder of Chitkara University along with other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ashok Chitkara said, "Innovation creates real value only when ideas move beyond laboratories and benefit society. The new incubation centre has been established to help entrepreneurs develop technologies that solve important challenges and create lasting impact."

Highlighting the importance of collaboration in building a strong innovation ecosystem, Amit Dhaka said, "Strong innovation ecosystems are built through collaboration. Initiatives such as the Atal Incubation Centre at Chitkara University will strengthen Punjab's startup landscape and create fresh opportunities for technology-led entrepreneurship."

Dr. Madhu Chitkara emphasised the role of institutions in connecting research, industry, and entrepreneurship. She said, "Institutions have an important role in connecting research, industry and entrepreneurship. The incubation centre will provide innovators with the mentoring, partnerships and support they need to build globally competitive ventures while contributing to India's innovation-led growth."

Building the Future of Entrepreneurship

Following the inauguration, dignitaries visited AIC-PRIDE Labs and interacted with startup founders working on emerging technologies. The visit gave them an opportunity to see innovative solutions being developed across a range of sectors, highlighting the diversity of ventures being nurtured at the incubation centre. It also reinforced Chitkara University's vision of creating a collaborative environment where researchers, entrepreneurs, industry experts, investors and policymakers can exchange ideas and develop practical solutions.

Chitkara University also acknowledged the contribution of Dr. Deepak Bagla, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, for his leadership and guidance in establishing the incubation centre. Although he could not attend the inauguration, his role in strengthening India's innovation ecosystem was recognised during the ceremony.

The launch of AIC-CIF showcases the changing role of universities in India's innovation landscape. Beyond education and research, universities are becoming platforms where ideas are transformed into enterprises and where young innovators receive the support needed to create solutions for the future.

As a regional innovation hub, AIC-CIF aims to strengthen entrepreneurship across Punjab and neighbouring regions, including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi-NCR, by collaborating with educational institutions, government agencies, incubators, research organisations, industry, and investor networks.
