Chitkara University has signed an MoU with Paramotor Digital Technology Limited to start the Sonia Asher Centre of Excellence in Future Technologies and Innovation. The idea, in short, is to stop treating fintech as something students read about and start treating it as something they actually do.
It's not really a surprise this is happening now. Financial technology in India has stopped being a specialisation and turned into something that sits underneath almost everything: how people pay, save, borrow, invest. Universities, for the most part, have been running to keep up. Chitkara University setting up this Centre is one attempt to close that gap for its students, giving them a direct line to artificial intelligence, data science, digital payments and the broader machinery that makes technology-enabled financial services actually work.

The way the university has chosen to build this says something too. It's not a certificate bolted onto an existing course, and it's not a one-time guest lecture that gets forgotten by the next semester. The plan is for teaching to happen alongside industry practice, not before it or after it. Paramotor's end of the deal includes workshops, mentorships, hackathons, direct interaction with people already working in the field, plus support for student-led projects, faculty development, and whatever innovation initiatives end up housed inside the Centre.
At the signing, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, President and Co-Founder of Chitkara University, talked about why this matters now. "Technology is rewriting the financial landscape at an unparalleled pace and preparing students for this transformation requires more than academic knowledge," she said. "It demands meaningful engagement with industry at close quarters, practical and hands-on problem-solving skills."

Students and faculty from business, design, mass communication, and law are all part of this, not just engineering. Which, if you think about it, is closer to how fintech teams actually work in the real world. Nobody builds a payments product with coders alone; someone has to think about how it's regulated, how it's communicated, how it's designed for people who aren't engineers.
That's really the value proposition here for students at Chitkara University: access. A seat in the room while people build fintech products, instead of reading a case study about it two years later. It's a direct line into an industry that usually keeps to itself, clustered in three or four cities, rarely bothering to look elsewhere.
