An interaction with Bhavsimran Kaur pursuing BA (Hons.) from Chitkara University

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself.

Bhavsimran: I am Bhavsimran Kaur, a budding economist in the making. Currently, I am pursuing my bachelor's in BA (Hons.) Economics with Data Science at Chitkara University, Punjab.
I possess qualities of leadership, diligence, and optimism in my personality. My list of passions includes writing articles, poems, blogs, and a lot more, along with a strong desire to be an eloquent speaker. I aim for the stars to serve as the best version possible in all spheres. Along with that, I have interests in music and traveling as well.

Careers360: How did you come to choose your institution/university and what factors were instrumental in your choice?

Bhavsimran: The phase of deciding on your dream university with a promising career is always the most crucial one. Starting from hovering over the internet to long discussions with your family and friends to finally preparing for D-Day, the journey is indeed a roller coaster ride.
My journey was similarly travelled. I always wanted to be a dynamic person, evolving through changes and time. Possessing some resonance with economics as a branch of study, I was inquisitive about it. So the hustle began to find a possible institute for the same.

My checklist was equipped with factors ranging from academics, internships, exposure, location, and accreditations. These are prerequisites, which I am sure every student looks into. I must say that Chitkara University is very well in line with my checklist and prerequisites, be it the dimension of discipline, student atmosphere, academics, co-curricular activities, and so on. The university has a sound reputation across the nation, even internationally. All the checks resulted in my favour, and that's how the path led to my finally getting admitted to this university.

Careers360: What were the salient features of your admission process at your institution/university that struck you as unique?

Bhavsimran: After the filtration of choosing Chitkara University as the next step in the career ladder, it was time to carry out the eligibility criteria and formalities to finally secure a place at the university. The system did not involve any unnecessary hustles to make the admission process smooth and effective. After generating a query on the official website, the team was quick enough to respond with immediate effect. The team respondent was easily accessible throughout the process. After enquiring about the details, the team again approached to carry out the formalities. Moreover, it was all happening when we were all blocked inside our houses during the pandemic.

All the required formalities were completed through email, and finally, the fee was paid through the institute's ERP, Chalkpad. I was very satisfied with the response and action by the institute to have made the process so seamless despite undergoing Covid COVID-19 pandemic scare, which was commendable.

Careers360: What is your take on the initial days at your institution/university campus considering that it is the time to build contacts etc, understand the processes? Could you give details on the support given by the institute?

Bhavsimran: Each one of us always strives to paint the first page of new beginnings most beautifully, and what can be more exciting for a student to enter college life? You get to know about people, traditions, and society and experience new aspects of life each day. Initial days are always packed with great zeal and enthusiasm to explore and experience the new vibe.

My initial experience at the university was also memorable. The moment we entered the campus and the other minute looking for directions to reach the lecture halls. The day was full of curiosity. Meeting up with your classmates for the first time and discussing each other makes it even more interesting. Interacting, getting to know the ambiance, and enjoying it are the best parts. Every newbie tries to understand each component of the whole ecosystem. They do take guidance and suggestions from their seniors to adjust to the environment more smoothly.
Minute details were taken care of by every stakeholder at the university. The university gave a very detailed orientation about the institute's values, culture, and processes to all the freshers. Every action is practised with the ultimate objective of putting students at ease and making them more efficient and effective in their respective areas. Moreover, mentors at the micro level help to satisfy students and show them how to deal with things in a better way.

Careers360: Now that you are a part of your institution/university campus, what in your opinion are stand-apart features of the institute that you think are real assets to building a student’s career and future?

Bhavsimran: Every student always looks forward to the good packages that the university will assist you in getting at the end of your campus life, and so did I. This feature acts as a prerequisite for most students. Talking about my perspective, I would say that firstly, the reputation and accreditation of the institute matter a lot because they give you insight into how the university is placed. Then the academic layout and faculty structure matter a lot. These two components go hand in hand and set the foundation for your entire graduation process. Thirdly, the kind of placements and internships offered to the students each year Thus, it is the most favourable and driving force for any student. Chitkara University has multiple MOUs and partnerships with the majority of the leading tycoons in all the key industries. Achieving sound offers from the industry does act as a booster for the entire career growth of every student's life. Lastly, the most striking feature is the decorum and ambiance provided at the university. Careers360: Could you give details on the industry connection that is inbuilt with the course at Chitkara University and its advantages?

Bhavsimran: Chitkara University has partnerships and collaborations with various industries, which provide students with numerous opportunities to gain practical experience and develop skills that are relevant to their chosen field. These industry connections are built into the curriculum, allowing students to work on real-world projects and gain hands-on experience. The use of blended learning, involving a mixture of both academic and industrial influences, helps to bring out the more creative aspects of students, unlike traditional teaching methodologies. Along with that, mentorship emerges as the most sought-after advantage for any student, and they can connect with experienced professionals who can provide guidance and advice as they navigate their careers.

Bhavsimran: Internships provide students with hands-on experience in their field of study or future careers. This experience allows students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations. It provides opportunities for students to develop and enhance their skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management. These skills are essential for success in any career. Chitkara University holds strong patterns in the case of internships and placements starting in any area of study. It follows a regressive process that starts with receiving application forms and goes through rigorous interview rounds, followed by appointment letters. Bhavsimran: It would be difficult to describe the whole feeling so briefly. But given the context, I would tag my experience till now as the best one. It was a decision taken in the right direction that ended up with me being here. I do have reasons for these assertions as well. It portrayed all the components that I always looked up to. Some of them may be because the amount of exposure given at this stage is simply inexplicable. Ranging up from academics to co-curricular activities, entrepreneurship, and whatnot, these factors might look simple at first glance but can pay off well in the future.
