Sahitya 2026: SRM Lit Fest 4.0 Celebrates India’s Literary Heritage and Knowledge Traditions at SRMIST

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), through the Department of Language, Culture and Society (LCS), successfully concluded Sahitya 2026: SRM Lit Fest 4.0, a two-day national literary festival held at the Kattankulathur Campus. Centred on the theme “Past as Prologue: Indian Knowledge Systems and Cultural Histories Shaping Viksit Bharat,” the festival brought together eminent writers, scholars, artists and students to explore India’s literary, cultural and intellectual traditions through discussions, performances and academic engagements.

The inaugural ceremony was welcomed by Dr. L. Kavitha Nair, Professor and Head, Department of Language, Culture and Society, and presided over by Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Dr. M. Leenus Jesu Martin, Dean, College of Engineering and Technology, graced the occasion, while the inaugural address was delivered by Cmde. Dr. Srikant B. Kesnur, VSM (Retd).

The first day of the festival featured a keynote session by internationally acclaimed author Mr. Ari Gautier from Oslo, Norway, who spoke on “Kréyofuturisme” and its connections to identity, memory and cultural histories. The programme also showcased a traditional puppet performance titled “Hanuman – Search for Sita” by South Indian Puppeteers, followed by a theatrical production by The Zephyrn Playhouse, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the festival.

The second day began with “Conversations Across Myth and Memory,” an interactive session featuring author Ms. Kavita Kane, who explored the continuing relevance of Indian epics and mythology in contemporary society. The literary discussions continued with expert sessions by Dr. Nilesh Oak, Ms. Iffat Nawaz and Dr. Vineet Aggarwal, covering Indian knowledge systems, cultural histories and their significance in shaping contemporary thought.

The festival also featured a Bharatanatyam dance drama, “JANANI JAGATH KARANI,” presented by Sridevi Nrithyalaya, celebrating India’s classical artistic traditions through dance and storytelling.

The valedictory ceremony marked the conclusion of Sahitya 2026: SRM Lit Fest 4.0 with the distribution of prizes to winners of the festival’s pre-event competitions, recognising outstanding student participation and creative excellence.

Through literary conversations, scholarly lectures, theatre, puppetry and classical dance, Sahitya 2026: SRM Lit Fest 4.0 provided a multidisciplinary platform for celebrating India’s cultural heritage while encouraging dialogue on the role of literature, history and knowledge systems in shaping Viksit Bharat.
