The Centre for Intelligent Marine and Energy Systems, SRMIST, Kattankulathur, has been formally recognised by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India and was inaugurated at SRMIST, Kattankulathur, Chennai, on Wednesday, 6th May 2026. This event marked a significant milestone in advancing interdisciplinary research and innovation in marine and energy technologies.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with the gracious presence of distinguished dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Dr M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, was respectfully invited to inaugurate the Centre by unveiling the screen, symbolising the formal launch of the Centre of Excellence.

The event was further honoured by the presence of eminent delegates, including Dr Balaji Ramakrishnan, Director, NIOT; Dr M. V. Ramana Murthy, Director & Scientist-G. National Centre for Coastal Research; Dr C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST; Dr Sivathanu Pillai, Professor and Chair; Dr C. Neppolian, Dean (Research); Dr K. Vijayakumar, Chair, School of Electrical Engineering; Dr R. Sridhar, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; and Dr J. Preetha Roselyn, Professor, Centre Head, CIMES Research Center. Following the inauguration, the event continued with an extensive project demonstration, showcasing innovative and cutting-edge research initiatives undertaken by the Centre.

The showcased projects highlighted the Centre’s strong focus on Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twin technologies, autonomous underwater systems, and sustainable energy solutions, emphasising their applications in marine exploration and climate mitigation.
During the visit, the delegates interacted with the research teams and provided valuable insights and expert guidance on the projects. They appreciated the innovative approach and discussed the future scope, scalability, and real-world applications of the technologies presented. The event concluded on a positive note, with a shared vision to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and government organisations in advancing intelligent marine systems and sustainable energy solutions.
