An Interaction with IILM University student: Aekantik Dalal (BA LLB Hons.)

About: IILM was established in 1993, under the aegis of the Ram Krishan & Sons Charitable Trust. IILM University offers a holistic and integrated approach to learning across a broad range of subjects of; Liberal Arts, Management, and Law. IILM is accredited by the SAQs (South Asian Quality Assurance System), NBA (National Board of Accreditation), and AIU (Association of Indian Universities). For admission at IILM University, candidates will have to submit the application form with all necessary documents. All candidates with good academic achievement, performance in a wide array of extracurricular activities and a statement of purpose will be invited for the IILM Personal Interview before the final communication about their admission. A minimum of 25% of seats for admissions in the University will be reserved for students of the State of Haryana, out of which 10% seats will be reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Castes of the State of Haryana, as per Section 35(3) of the Haryana Private University Act 2006. IILM University considers LSAT India scores as part of the selection process for admission to the BA LLB, BBA LLB, and LLM programmes. IILM University is also accepting the Pearson Undergraduate Entrance Exam scores.

Q. Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?

Ans: I am Aekantik Dalal and I hail from Haryana.

Q. Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?

Ans: I am currently pursuing a BA LLB (Hons) and I am in my last year, specifically the fifth year.

Q. Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined IILM University?

Ans: Yes, in the initial months, I found it challenging to adjust to the habit of extensive reading. However, the institute's mentoring programs and the support from faculty members helped me acclimate quickly. Moreover, the pandemic made life and studies a bit challenging, but the university's positive and supportive approach made it easier and more convenient for us during these hard times.

Q. What activities are offered at IILM University? Are there any clubs for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Ans: Our institute offers a variety of activities, including moot court competitions, legal aid clinics, debate societies, and cultural events. I am an active member of the Moot Court Society and the Legal Aid Clinic, where I have participated in various competitions and societal services.

Q: Describe a typical day at IILM University- what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?

Ans: A typical day kicks starts with a refreshing jog (on the days I don’t turn my alarm off), followed by a breakfast with friends. At 9:00 am, it’s time for my first lecture and mostly we have 5 to 6 lectures scheduled for a day. There are some days in the week when we spend time in the auditorium for some interesting seminars and discussions. Lunch is a great time to catch up with classmates and swap stories. In the afternoon, I dive into case studies or gear up for our next moot court competition-it’s like preparing for a legal showdown! Evenings it is just hanging out and enjoying impromptu jam sessions with friends. After dinner, we often have study groups that somehow blend intense discussions with a lot of laughs. To wind down, I might watch a favourite series, read something interesting, or just chat late into the night with my roommates.

No two days are ever the same, and that's what makes it all so fun!

Q. Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Ans: The faculty-student ratio at our law college is quite favourable, which allows for personalised attention and mentorship. The relationship between teachers and students is very supportive and collaborative. Professors are approachable and often provide guidance beyond academic matters, helping with career advice and professional development.

Q. What all facilities do you have on the IILM University campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Ans: Our campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a well-stocked library, computer lab, on-campus hostel, legal research centres and a common area for students. What I find most unique and differentiating is the Moot Court Room. This facility not only enhances our learning experience but also boosts our confidence and readiness for actual courtrooms.

Q. How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Ans: The hostels are very comfortable, with well-furnished rooms and common areas. The cleanliness and maintenance are excellent, with regular housekeeping services ensuring a hygienic living environment.

Q. What about the medical facilities at IILM University? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Ans: Yes, we have a well-equipped medical room on campus that provides round-the-clock medical assistance. In case of emergencies, there are tie-ups with nearby hospitals to ensure prompt medical attention. We also have weekly visits from Doctors.

Q. How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?

Ans: Balancing studies, projects, exams, and extracurricular activities requires effective time management and prioritisation. I use a planner to organise my tasks and make sure to allocate sufficient time for both academic and extracurricular commitments. Staying disciplined and focused helps in maintaining this balance.

Q. Tell us about the clubs and societies at the IILM University campus and how significant they are from your point of view or students' point of view.

Ans: The clubs and societies, such as the Moot Court Society, our Law Club, Lex Clava and Legal Aid Clinic, play a significant role in enhancing our learning experience. They provide practical exposure, improve our legal skills, and offer networking opportunities with professionals in the field. From a student's perspective, these activities are crucial for overall development and career readiness.

Q. Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at IILM University?

Ans: Yes, we have a newsletter by the name of causa-causans that publishes articles, the latest happenings on the campus, achievements and interesting pieces by students and faculty.

Q. What are the popular hangouts at IILM University? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Ans: Popular hangouts on campus include the student lounge, the cafeteria and the open foyer. During winter, the garden area is the most popular hangout for group discussions and events.

Q. How do you spend your leisure time at the IILM University campus?

Ans: In my leisure time, I enjoy participating in cultural events or simply relaxing with friends in the common areas. I also take part in organising some events being a senior now and sometimes volunteer for community service initiatives organised by the institute.

Q. What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here at IILM University?

Ans: A variety of law firms, corporate houses, and government agencies are expected to participate in our campus recruitment. The recruitment process is well-structured, involving a special focus on Internships as a part of the course curriculum.
