Celebrating World Environment Day with an important step towards sustainability for the environment, Parul University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CATCH Foundation, Ahmedabad to develop one acre type of Miyawaki Forest inside its campus. This partnership shows a shared pledge for ecological repair, protection of a variety of life, and climate-conscious development.
The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of an ambitious afforestation effort where more than 5,000 native trees and shrubs are going to be planted using the internationally recognized Miyawaki approach. It’s meant to form dense, self-sustaining forested areas in a shorter span, and the method supports quick expansion of local vegetation, while strengthening native biodiversity and environmental resilience.

Remarked globally as a platform for encouraging environmental actions, World Environment Day offered an ideal reason to launch a project that fits with the ideas of sustainable progress and careful environmental guardianship. With this initiative, Parul University aims to contribute meaningfully towards enhancing more green cover, raising ecological awareness, and cultivating a habit of sustainability among students as well as the broader community.
The proposed Miyawaki Forest is expected to work like a lively natural system, backing better air quality, carbon uptake, water saving, soil enrichment, and habitat building for birds, butterflies and other local species. At the same time, the initiative should help ease the urban heat effect, and also make the region more climate-resilient overall.
The World Environment Day celebration also witnessed the launch of several sustainability focused initiatives that are meant to enhance environmental responsibility across the campus. One big highlight was the university’s upgraded Solid Waste Management Initiative, which reinforced better waste segregation, recycling, and resource management practices, as part of its long term commitment towards environmental stewardship.
The event also featured a Sustainability Pledge, an innovative Sustainability Wall showcasing collective commitments towards a greener future, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Miyawaki Forest. Further uplifting innovation driven, environmental solutions, the university announced a Call for Sustainability Research, inviting students, researchers and innovators to bring forth impactful ideas and research based solutions for a more sustainable future.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Geetika Madan Patel, Vice President, Parul University, said, “The Miyawaki Forest initiative is a significant step towards our vision of creating a truly sustainable and environmentally conscious campus. This collaboration with CATCH Foundation reflects our commitment towards biodiversity conservation, climate action, and the national mission of Sustainable Bharat.”
The collaboration between Parul University and CATCH Foundation represents a long term investment into environmental wellbeing, and sustainable campus building. As the forest matures in the coming years , it is expected to emerge as a lively biodiversity zone that supports even more ecological variety. This is expected to further strengthen the university’s role as a leader in sustainability-led initiatives, and responsible environmental action.
