Jadavpur University 2019 Admission Criteria - B.Sc.

Physics, Chemistry, Geological Sciences - To be eligible, Candidates need to have passed 10+2 Examination from any recognized board in Science stream with Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and with at least an average of 75% marks obtained in Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics. In case of OBC-A/OBC-B category, minimum requirement for average marks to be obtained in the aforementioned three subjects is 67.5%. In case of SC/ST/PD/Sports category, minimum requirement of average marks to be obtained in the aforementioned subjects is 56.25%. In case of disabled candidates, The minimum disability in case of disabled candidates should be 40%.

Mathematics - Candidates need to have passed 10+2 Examination from any recognized board in Science with Mathematics and best of any two subjects from Chemistry, Statistics, Physics, Geography, Computer Science and with a minimum average of 75% marks in average in the aforementioned three subjects. For OBC-A/OBC-B category, minimum requirement of average marks to be scored in the aforementioned three subjects is 67.5%. For SC/ST/PD/Sports category, minimum requirement of average marks to be obtained in the aforementioned three subjects is 56.25%. The minimum disability in case of the PD candidates is 40%.

Geography- Candidates need to have passed 10+2 Examination from any recognized board in Science with Mathematics and any two subjects from Geography, Physics, Geology, Chemistry & Economics with at least an average of 70% marks to be obtained in the above three subjects.

In case of OBC-A/OBC-B category, the minimum average to be scored is 63% in the aforementioned three(3) subjects. In case of SC/ST/PD/Sports category, candidates need to score a minimum average of 52.5% in the aforementioned three subjects. The minimum disability in case of the PD candidates is 40%.

Jadavpur University Admission Criteria 2019 - Postgraduate Courses

Candidates can go through the admission criteria of Jadavpur University 2019 for postgraduate courses including M.A. and M.Sc. 

Jadavpur University 2019 Admission Criteria - M.A.

Bengali - Candidates need to possess a 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with a minimum of 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC -B category, 41.25% for SC/ST category 45% for Sports category) in Honours papers.

Comparative Literature -

Category I- Candidates need to have a minimum three-year Bachelor's degree with Honours/Major in Comparative Literature with at least 40% marks. Or candidates with a three-year Bachelors degree with Honours/Major in any literature subject with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/ OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers are also eligible for the course.

Category-II - Candidates with a Bachelor's degree with at least three years of formal instruction with Honours/Specialization/Majors in any non-literature subject in Science/Commerce/Arts stream with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Specialization/Major papers will be eligible. Or candidates with a degree in Technical/Engineering/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor's degree*, with at least three years of formal instruction.

Economics - Candidates need to have a 3-Year B.A./B.Sc Honours degree or Major in Economics from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks (54% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 50% for Sports category and 45% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers and at least two papers/courses in Mathematics or Mathematical Economics. If in case a candidate’s honours/major subject is not mentioned in the marksheet for an applicant’s BA degree, his/her BA degree will be considered equal to Major in Economics is he/she had studied Economics as course/papers for at least 50% of the total marks in BA.

Education

Category-I - To be eligible, candidates need to have a 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree in Education from a recognised University with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC -B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in the Honours papers.

Category-II - 

Candidates need to have a 3-Year Honours/Major degree in any subject and a B.Ed degree with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in both degrees from any recognised University.

English- Candidates require a Bachelor's degree with at least three years of formal instruction with Honours/Specialization/major in any subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category) or candidates with a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor's degree*, with at least three years of formal instruction and with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category).

Film Studies- To be eligible, candidates will need to possess a 3-Year Honours degree or Major in Film Studies or any subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream or degree in Engineering/Medical Science/Technology or any such recognised Bachelor degree.

History- Candidates will need to have a 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree in the History from a recognised University with a minimum of 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

Linguistics- To be eligible, candidates need to have a 3-Year Honours degree or Major in any literature or any subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B/SC/ST category) in Honours papers or degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor degree.

Philosophy- Candidates need to have a 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree from a recognised university in Philosophy with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers. If in case a candidate’s marksheet does not mention the honours/major subject, then his/her BA degree will be treated as equivalent to hons. In Philosophy if he/she had studied a BA course with a minimum aggregate of 800 marks with at least 50% marks in Philosophy.

Political Science with International Relations- Candidates need to have a 3-Year B.A.Honours degree or Major in Political Science from a recognised University with a minimum of 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 41.25% for SC/ST category and 45% for Sports category) in Honours papers.

Sanskrit- To be eligible, candidates need to have a 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree in Sanskrit or Shastri with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognised University (49.5% for

PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category).

Sociology- Candidates require a 3-Year B.A. Honours degree or Major in Sociology with a minimum of 50% from a recognised University (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers.

Candidates need a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the pass subjects. Aggregate requirement - 45%.

Chemistry

Candidates need 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as subsidiary/ pass subjects. Aggregate requirement is 60%. 

Candidates need a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as subsidiary/ pass subjects. Aggregate requirement - 45%. 

Mathematics

Candidates need to have a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Mathematics. Aggregate requirement is 60%. 

Candidates need a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Mathematics. Aggregate requirement is 45%.

Applied Geology

Candidates must have a 3-year B.Sc.(Honours/ Major) in Geology/Geological Sciences with Mathematics and Physics/Chemistry as pass subjects. Minimum aggregate requirement is 55%. 

Candidates need to have a 3-year B.Sc.(Honours/ Major) in Geology/Geological Sciences with Mathematics and Physics/ Chemistry as pass subjects. Minimum aggregate requirement is 41%. 

Electronic Science

Candidates require a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Physics/ Electronics with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary/ pass subjects. Minimum aggregate is 60%.

Candidates need a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Physics/ Electronics with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary/ pass subjects. Minimum aggregate is 45%. 

Biotechnology

Candidates require a B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level and 55% in the minimum aggregate. 

Candidates require a B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level and with a minimum aggregate of 41%. 

Instrumentation

Candidates require a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Physics/ Instrumentation/ Electronics/ Chemistry (with pass subject in Physics and Mathematics) with a minimum aggregate of 50%. Candidate should have studied Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. Level.

Candidates need a 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/ Major) in Physics/ Instrumentation/ Electronics/ Chemistry (with pass subject in Physics and Mathematics) with a minimum aggregate of 41%. Candidate should have studied Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. Level.

Jadavpur University 2019 Admission Criteria - Important Pointers to be kept in Mind

  • Candidates should fulfil the admission criteria mandated by the university for the course they are applying for. If candidates are found to be not complying with the admission criteria of Jadavpur University 2019, their admissions will be cancelled. 

  • Candidates who are yet to appear in the B.A. and B.Sc. final examinations within May 21, 2019 and fulfil the aforementioned eligibility criteria in the honours paper of previous semesters taken together will also be eligible to apply for M.A. and M.Sc. courses. Such candidates will be required to furnish a certificate at the time of counselling/admission that they have taken their final examination before May 31, 2019. 

  • For the following courses, if the candidate’s marksheet does not mention honours subject, they will not be considered eligible for the admissions - M.A. in Bengali, Comparative Literature, Economics, Education, History, Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science with IR, Sanskrit, and Sociology. However, there are certain courses for which a different set of conditions will be applicable if the marksheet does not mention the honours subject. Candidates can refer to the aforementioned tables for information regarding this.
