Careers360: Could you tell us a little about yourself and the reasons behind choosing Adamas University for your higher education?
Ishita Bhowmick: Hi, I am Ishita Bhowmick. I have completed my Master’s in Geoinformatics and am currently pursuing my PhD in Geography from Adamas University. I have a strong interest in geoinformatics, remote sensing, and environmental analysis. I chose Adamas University because of its interdisciplinary approach, industry-oriented curriculum, and strong emphasis on practical learning. The availability of advanced labs, experienced faculty, and exposure to real-world projects helped me build a solid foundation in geospatial science and inspired me to continue my academic journey here at the doctoral level.
Careers360: Did the curriculum at the university help you acquire the practical skills required by the industry?
Ishita Bhowmick: Yes, the curriculum was well-aligned with industry requirements. It included hands-on training in GIS software, remote sensing techniques, and data analysis tools. Practical assignments, fieldwork, and project-based learning significantly helped me develop skills that are directly applicable in both research and industry settings.
Careers360: During your campus life at the university, on a scale of 1–5, what rating would you give the level of approachability and guidance?
Ishita Bhowmick: I would rate it a 4.5 out of 5. The faculty members were highly approachable and supportive. They were always willing to guide us academically as well as professionally, which made a big difference in our learning experience.
Careers360: How would you sum up your campus life at Adamas University, and what has been your most memorable experience?
Ishita Bhowmick: My campus life has been enriching and transformative. It provided a balance of academics, skill development, and extracurricular engagement. One of my most memorable experiences was working on my dissertation and internship, where I could apply theoretical concepts to real-world environmental and agricultural problems.
Careers360: Can you share how peer learning, faculty mentoring, and industry exposure supported your growth during the programme?
Ishita Bhowmick: Peer learning helped me gain diverse perspectives and improve problem-solving skills, with access to the library providing ample opportunities for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing. Faculty mentoring played a crucial role in guiding my academic and research direction. Industry exposure through internships, guest lectures, and live projects gave me valuable insights into real-world applications and expectations, enhancing my confidence and preparedness.
Careers360: How effective were case studies, projects, and internships in bridging the gap between theory and real-world practice?
Ishita Bhowmick: They were extremely effective. Case studies helped in understanding practical challenges, while projects allowed us to apply concepts in a structured way. My internship experience, especially at the Geological Survey of India (GSI), gave me firsthand exposure to real datasets and field-based applications, effectively bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Careers360: While being enrolled, did you take part in any events or activities that involved alumni?
Ishita Bhowmick: Yes, I participated in sessions and interactions where alumni shared their career journeys and industry experiences. These interactions were insightful and helped me understand different career paths and opportunities in the geospatial domain.
Careers360: Do you have any ongoing mentoring commitments, and would you be interested in guiding students from Adamas University going forward?
Ishita Bhowmick: Currently, I do not have formal mentoring commitments, but I would definitely be interested in guiding students from Adamas University in the future. I believe in giving back to the institution and supporting juniors in their academic and professional journeys.
Careers360: What did you like most about your campus life at Adamas University? Do you have any recommendations for improving the programme or the campus environment?
Ishita Bhowmick: What I liked most about my campus life at Adamas University was the overall positive and supportive learning environment, which encouraged both academic and personal growth.
In terms of recommendations, the syllabus is well-structured and comprehensive; however, considering the rapidly evolving industry expectations, it would be beneficial to stay updated with new emerging tools, latest technologies, and industry-driven modules.
Careers360: What recommendations would you give to students planning to pursue a similar professional journey?
Ishita Bhowmick: I would advise students to focus on building strong technical skills in GIS and remote sensing, actively participate in internships and research projects, and stay updated with the latest technologies in GIS, such as Python for geospatial analysis, AI/ML for spatial modelling and prediction, and data analysis for handling large geospatial datasets. Networking, continuous learning, and hands-on practice are key to success in this field.
