    The Department of Agriculture Business Management at Vivekananda Global University (VGU), Jaipur, today inaugurated a two-day National Conference on "Agri-Innovation and Sustainability in Modern Agriculture (AISMA)". A total of 461 researchers, scientists, and agriculture experts from across the country have registered for this conference. The best research papers presented at the conference will be published, making it a significant academic achievement for the participants.

    The programme commenced with Ganesh Vandana, followed by the lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana, and a floral welcome extended to the distinguished guests on stage. The welcome address was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. (Dr.) Hoshiyar Singh. He stated that India is an agrarian nation and farmers are the backbone of its economy. He emphasised that until modern technology and scientific methods are adopted in agriculture, the goal of doubling farmers' income will remain unfulfilled. In his presidential address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Dr.) N. D. Mathur said that the participation of 461 researchers proves that the young scholars of the country are working seriously to bring change in the agricultural sector. He stated that VGU Jaipur always accords the highest priority to agricultural research and that the research papers presented by participants will assist policymakers in making decisions in the right direction.

    Special guest Prof. (Dr.) Jasveer Singh, President of SDARD, shared his views on agricultural policies and rural development, stating that the need for sustainable agriculture is paramount today. He said that reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers and promoting organic and natural farming is the demand of the times, and that SDARD is always ready to work in collaboration with universities in this direction. Dr B. S. Khadda, Vice President of SDARD and Deputy Director (Training) of KVK Mohali, emphasised the importance of connecting farmers with modern technologies. He stated that modern methods such as drone technology, micro-irrigation, and soil health cards can multiply farmers' productivity manifold.

    Dr K. R. Bagaria, Founding Vice President of VGU and former member of RPSC, stated that from the very inception of VGU, it was resolved that this university would not merely be a degree-granting institution but a research centre contributing directly to national development. He called upon young researchers to dedicate their talent and energy to the upliftment of agriculture. Dr Lalit K. Panwar, IAS (Retd.), Chairperson of VGU, emphasised the need to view agriculture not merely as a traditional occupation but to develop it as a professional enterprise. He stated that only when farmers understand the intricacies of price determination, marketing, and export of their produce will they truly become economically empowered.

    The Chief Guest of the conference, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Agriculture University Kota, Prof. (Dr.) Vimla Dunkwal delivered an inspiring address in which she stated that in the era of climate change, the development of climate-resilient crop varieties and water conservation technologies will form the foundation of future agriculture. She highlighted the role of women farmers, saying that the contribution of women to Indian agriculture is unparalleled, and it is extremely necessary to connect them with modern technology and proper training. She encouraged young researchers, saying that their research and innovations will determine the direction and future of Indian agriculture in the times to come. Prof. (Dr.) D. V. S. Bhagavanulu, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, expressed gratitude to all the distinguished guests. Following the inaugural session, keynote speeches were delivered in which experts shared extensive views on important subjects such as organic farming, digital agriculture, soil health, and water management. Thereafter, oral and poster research presentations were successfully organised, in which researchers from across the country participated enthusiastically. The second day of the conference will be held on April 10, featuring keynote speeches and oral presentations. The conference will conclude with a grand valedictory function in which participants who presented the best research papers will be honoured.
