REVA University has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Design Centre of Excellence (D-CoE) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to strengthen industry-relevant design education and provide students with greater exposure to advanced design and prototyping facilities.

The MoU, signed on August 25, 2026, is expected to create new opportunities for REVA University students and faculty through specialised training, workshops, academic projects, internships and joint activities.
The D-CoE, which originated from IISc’s M.Sc. programme in Product Design, offers eight one-week training modules that lead to postgraduate-level certificates. The modules cover Industry 4.0 Technologies, Design Thinking and Methodologies, Aesthetics and Semiotics, Ergonomics and Human Factors, Design Prototyping, Mechanical Prototyping, Electronics Prototyping, and Business Development and Entrepreneurship.
These modules will complement REVA University's approach to design engineering by bringing together creative thinking, technical skills, prototyping and entrepreneurship.

As part of the MoU, the D-CoE will conduct two to four Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) every year for REVA faculty and trainers. The partnership will also include four to six one-day foundation workshops annually on Product Design and Innovation for students at the REVA campus.
Students and faculty who complete the prescribed D-CoE programmes will also gain access to IISc D-CoE laboratories, equipment, design databases and mentoring resources for academic project work.
The two institutions will further undertake at least four joint activities every year, which may include seminars, webinars, design challenges, innovation bootcamps and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The partnership is particularly significant for REVA University's new B.Tech Design Engineering programme, which commenced in the academic year 2026-27. Students of the programme will undergo the eight D-CoE training modules at IISc during their sixth semester as part of the curriculum.
This allows students to learn beyond the conventional classroom environment and work with advanced technologies and equipment.

Students undertaking training and internships at the D-CoE will have access to specialised manufacturing and technology facilities, including 3D metal printing, 5-axis CNC milling machines, EDM wire-cut machines, PCB fabrication, AR/VR and embedded systems.
Such exposure is expected to strengthen practical learning and support the programme's objective of developing students with advanced skills in creating complex engineering products.
The MoU marks a significant step towards connecting design education with advanced technology, research and hands-on learning, while allowing REVA's Design Engineering students to gain experience in a high-end innovation and prototyping ecosystem.
