The University of Southampton, being part of the prestigious Russell Group, has a strong academic foundation, and I knew it would provide the right platform to build a valuable professional network. That made my decision easier, but what truly convinced me was my interaction with the director for the Indian region at that time. She gave me a clear picture of what to expect in Southampton, and our conversation made me feel confident about my choice.

Studying BSc Accounting and Finance with a Placement Year meant that I had the opportunity to gain real-world experience before graduating. In my third year, I went through the application process, secured a placement, and worked in a business environment. This experience helped me land a summer internship at Grant Thornton, which eventually led to a graduate role. Working in a multinational firm like Grant Thornton has been incredibly rewarding, especially since the company has a major presence in India and collaborates with some of the top businesses there.

Looking back, my proudest achievement isn’t just my academic success, it’s the relationships I built. Four years flew by in what feels like an instant, and I walked away with not just a degree but lifelong friends and professional connections. That network is something I will carry with me forever.

If there’s one piece of advice I could give to future students, it would be this: Go for it. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. No one is waiting to catch you out—everyone is there to support you every step of the way. Good luck!
