ATLAS SkillTech University Alumni Interview: Shiksha Chauhan

Careers360 brings you an interview with Shiksha Chauhan, who pursued MBA in Entrepreneurship and Business Analytics from ATLAS SkillTech University and now working at Jio GenNext, the startup-facing arm of Reliance Industries Limited. Careers360: Tell us about your domain and your work profile. At the professional level, did you pursue the same field you were interested in or you switched?

Shiksha: I am working with Restaverse as a Marketing & Sales Manager. Restaverse is a tech-enabled consulting start-up for the hospitality & F&B sector. Largely, my role includes, client servicing, business strategy & data management. This includes identifying growth & marketing strategies for the clients based on data, analysing the data using Excel functions & client management. I am the first full-time employee of the start-up.
Yes, I have pursued the same field that I was interested in. My specialization in ATLAS was Marketing & Entrepreneurship & I was looking for a job in strategy & marketing, which I got in Restaverse.

Careers360: Can you briefly tell us about your career path so far?

Shiksha: I completed my schooling from Gopi Birla Memorial School in 2014. Post which, I graduated from K.P.B.Hinduja College of Commerce with a Bachelor's in Management Studies (Marketing) in 2019. My interest, then, lay in Human Resources, so I planned to take an internship to understand the field. Received an internship opportunity in OYO Rooms as a HR intern, where I got familiar with the recruitment tools & process. This led me to take a full time job in the field of recruitment at WhizzHR, a recruitment firm for the digital media industry. I worked there from Nov-2019 to May 2021. Here, my key role was sourcing, screening, interviews scheduling, coordination, salary negotiation & final on the boarding process of the candidate. After working, I planned to do my MBA, & ATLAS was a great opportunity that came my way, so picked it up.

Careers360: Is the Industry work different from what you learnt at ATLAS SkillTech University?

Shiksha: The base work at Restaverse is what I have learnt at ATLAS SkillTech University. I remember our professor Dr. Kamatchi Iyer teaching us Excel functions in 1st Trimester & this has really helped me during my initial days at work. The Industry work is the practical version of what we have learnt or done at ATLAS SkillTech University. Since at the university, we were asked to do projects for each subject, this has evolved our thought process in the right direction. It is not difficult now to make strategies for clients at work.

Careers360: How do you think your time in college has added value to your life, both professional and personal?

Shiksha: The University has provided a valuable foundation for both personal & professional growth, fostering interpersonal skills, professional competencies & self-development. Interpersonal skills like communication, teamwork & networking. Professional competencies like specialized knowledge in Marketing, critical thinking, adaptability & time management, professionalism. These contribute to a well-rounded individual capable of navigating the complexities of the modern world.

Careers360: What was your initial thought process when you joined ATLAS SkillTech University?

Shiksha: While planning to do an MBA, the whole thought process was to gain specialized knowledge in a particular field & gain skills which can help in professional growth. I wanted to join a university which provided the correct industry exposure, personal & professional skills & lastly, which provided a good placement opportunity. I can say that ATLAS SkillTech University has provided me with all of the above.

Careers360: You must have had a memorable time at your university. Do you miss being a part of it? Share a few good memories.

Shiksha: Definitely, I miss being a part of the college times. When in college, I don’t remember, we were sitting idle, we were always doing some activity, like we had industry speaker sessions, some events like a fair or a festival. Since the campus is also huge, the space is always welcoming & full of life with students around. I remember being selected for a conference in Delhi by ASCI. We were around 16 students selected to visit Delhi for an advertising conference. This was a great opportunity to represent our college amongst the industry speakers from HUL, Netflix, Sony, WPP group, some from Cricket background. Other than that, in class, I remember, while learning Organization Behaviour by Dr. Zuleika Homavazir, we choose to learn it through role plays & activities. That was one of the best subjects we have learnt.

Careers360: Briefly take us through your life at the campus, the activities you used to do and your routine life.

Shiksha: My day would start by rushing to college for an early morning lecture & making it on time. We would be in college till 4-5pm, either in lectures, or completing a team project or planning some event or working for the Placement Committee. We would be busy doing something or the other. After coming home, we would rest for sometime, and then work on some project or do a team project.

Careers360: Apart from academics, what were the other activities you were involved in and how did it enrich your life?

Shiksha: Other than Academics, I was a part of the Student Committee, Learning & Development Cell (Placement Committee) & President of ATLAS Business Club.

Being a part of these activities would help me to enrich my interpersonal, teamwork, management skills.

Careers360: How did you keep updated with the industrial requirements and what was the role of the institute in it?

Shiksha: In the initial days of the MBA, all our professors took the initiative to inculcate the habit of reading & be updated of the external environment through reading. Through this habit, we kept reading, this actually helped us to know more about the industry & external environment. Other than that, Dr. Indu Shahani Ma’am, has always shared the latest news about any new start-up or any leader. She always made sure we were up to date with the news.

Careers360: You are a proud alumnus of this top College. What is the best part of ATLAS SkillTech University from a student's perspective?

Shiksha: As a student, the university has a lot of perks, like a great campus, amazing faculty, latest infrastructure to learn new skills, irrespective of your specialization, flexibility in the syllabus.

Careers360: What is your suggestion/guidance for the MBA aspirants?

Shiksha: Here certain points which the university provides & course aspirants should consider –
