Careers360: Tell us something about yourself.

Hemant Sharma: I am Hemant Sharma, I hail from Uttarakhand and am currently pursuing my Bachelors in Computer Science from MIT-WPU, Pune. I am majoring in Cybersecurity and I'm currently in my Third Year. I am a tech geek and I love to explore more domains that are currently in the trend. I relax myself by watching sports like football and basketball while also maintaining interest in visual media like TV shows and movies.

Careers360: What made you pursue a programme at MIT World Peace University?

Hemant Sharma: While I was browsing through different universities to apply to, I had a talk with my friend, he suggested that I look at MIT-WPU. I was impressed by the infrastructure present. MIT-WPU was amongst the first colleges to implement the NEP introduced by the central government to make it easier for students to gain access to interdisciplinary studies. Therefore, I applied at MIT-WPU right away and got in. Honestly, once I got in at MIT-WPU, I didn't even look at other colleges and just started preparing for my new adventure.

Careers360: How smooth was your experience with the admission and selection process?

Hemant Sharma: My experience was very smooth and streamlined with the admission and selection process. I navigated through the website, saw the preferred programmes and filled the application form right away along with the application fees. I got the confirmation on the email I provided and a date for the entrance examination. I gave the exam that day and got a slot for the personal interview. The interview was pretty good, the questions were related to the course and my interests. Then, I received a selection email and paid the fees.

Careers360: During the initial months of joining the MIT-WPU campus did you face any challenges?

Hemant Sharma: Initial months after joining MIT-WPU were pretty exciting. It was a new culture and the local language was different. But never once did I feel left out or alienated by the students or the faculties. Everyone was very friendly and supportive and made me feel welcomed. Although I had expected it to be somewhat difficult to settle in, it was not. I made good friends and they were there to help me whenever I needed something or the other. The faculties were also very supportive and used to ask the languages everyone was comfortable with and they used to teach in that particular language.

Careers360: What does your daily routine look like? Do you follow a specific schedule that helps manage your time, and stress levels?

Hemant Sharma: I wake up early in the morning at around 4:45-5:00 am. I freshen up and then go to the gym. Once I return, I bathe and get ready for my lectures. I reach campus at around 8:15 am for the lectures starting from 8:30 am. I get done with my lectures by 12:30 or 1:00 in the afternoon. Then I take a nap in the afternoon. After waking up, I start preparing my food. I cook the food, watch something while eating and then study for an hour or two. Then I sleep by 11 pm to get adequate sleep. Even though I try to keep my schedule as intact as possible, anomalies do arise sometimes. Sticking to a schedule gets tedious in the start but the body develops familiarity really fast.

Careers360: What makes the MIT-WPU campus life unique?

Hemant Sharma: MIT-WPU has a vibrant campus life that is supported by greenery all around and diversity. MIT-WPU has made bringing different cultures together very easy. This makes it easier for students to understand each other’s cultures. The faculty and support staff are very friendly and supportive. This makes it easier for the students to clear out doubts and grievances. There are a lot of student clubs at MIT-WPU that correspond to different interests. MIT-WPU conducts a lot of events that help students with networking and building connections.

Careers360: How can students engage actively with the MIT-WPU community?

Hemant Sharma: Students can actively engage with the MIT-WPU community by joining student clubs, participating in cultural, technical, and sports events, or contributing to social initiatives like NCC. They can take up leadership roles in the Student Council to represent peers and influence university decisions. Attending workshops, seminars, and festivals fosters networking and skill-building. Students can also collaborate on research projects with faculty to explore innovative ideas. Volunteering for community service or campus activities builds social responsibility and teamwork. By immersing themselves in these opportunities, students can enhance their personal growth, build strong connections, and make the most of their MIT-WPU experience.

Careers360: Have you been a part of the cultural and social activities at the campus which celebrates diversity, creativity, and innovation? Give details.

Hemant Sharma: I have been a part of many events organised at MIT-WPU. These include RIDE, BCS, World Peace Parliament, Aarohan, etc. It is a very enriching experience to be involved in such events. I got to interact with students from different courses, cultures and backgrounds. Getting to hear different visionaries belonging to different backgrounds and industries is something that inspires you, makes you aim for greatness. Being a part of events is one of the best ways to build connections and network with people.

Careers360: Did you take part in any student elections held at MIT-WPU? If yes, what according to you are the perks of joining a student council?

Hemant Sharma: No, I did not take part in any student elections held at MIT-WPU.

Careers360: Are you associated with any of the student clubs? If yes, what role do these clubs play in committing holistic development?

Hemant Sharma: Yes, I am associated with HACK-X, the official cybersecurity club at MIT-WPU. I am currently the President of the club. The aim of the club is to create cybersecurity awareness amongst the masses amid the exponential increase in the amount of cyber crimes in recent times. We at the club, organise seminars, workshops, and hands-on competitions to assess the levels of the students at MIT-WPU.

Careers360: How is the teacher-student relationship at MIT-WPU? Your insights on this.

Hemant Sharma: At MIT-WPU, the teacher-student relationship is nurtured to foster growth beyond academics. Faculty members are dedicated to providing personal attention, ensuring students grasp concepts thoroughly. They're supportive and motivating, creating an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating learning environment. The experienced and highly qualified professors are approachable, offering guidance and support whenever needed. This supportive dynamic transforms the educational experience, inspiring students, and helping them excel both academically and personally. The accessibility of staff further enhances this relationship, ensuring students feel comfortable seeking help and clarification.

Careers360: Did you get a chance to attend any alumni engagement events? How was the interaction valuable?

Hemant Sharma: I could not attend any alumni engagement events because of a family emergency, but would like to attend in the near future.

Careers360: How much would you rate the academic infrastructure at MIT-WPU?

Hemant Sharma: MIT-WPU's academic infrastructure aims to offer a world-class learning environment. Smart classrooms are equipped with modern teaching aids, such as smart boards, projectors, and high-speed Internet. The library serves as a knowledge hub with a vast collection of books, journals, e-resources, and research databases. Specialised labs for programmes like computer science, robotics, and fluid mechanics offer hands-on experience. The university also has multiple cafeterias and vending machines across its campus. Overall, the infrastructure appears well-equipped to support academic activities and provide a comfortable learning environment.

Careers360: Why would you recommend studying at MIT-WPU to your family and friends?

Hemant Sharma: Studying at MIT-WPU has been a life-changing experience for me, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to my family and friends. The campus is vibrant and full of energy, with opportunities to grow both academically and personally. The professors are approachable and genuinely care about our progress, encouraging us to think beyond textbooks. What I love most is the focus on practical learning, with projects, internships, and industry exposure that prepare us for the real world. The peace studies courses are unique—they’ve helped me develop a balanced perspective on life. It’s not just a university; it’s a place that shapes you into a better version of yourself.
