Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?

Anishka: I am Anishka Majethia, from Gujarat.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?

Anishka: I am a third-year undergraduate student at FLAME pursuing a Psychology major with a minor in Human Resource Management.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Anishka: I joined FLAME online, and hence my set of difficulties was more about socialization. But talking about my on-campus life, I had a little difficulty adjusting to a new change. We have a very diverse population here, and although it was exciting and intriguing, it was also difficult to understand, accept, and dwell with people who were different from me in various aspects.

However, these challenges lasted only for the first week. Owing to the fact that FLAME is a residential campus, all of us soon learned to be open to differences and differences of opinions, fostering healthy friendships and intellectual conversations.

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Anishka: FLAME literally has so many activities going on all year round. Right from the big events like FLAME Fest and Talent Nights to small activities like crowdfunding, art fairs, competitions, workshops, etc.

Yes, FLAME has 30+ clubs. The best part is that these clubs are not only confined to sports and cultural activities but also management, communications, etc. For example, we have a Debate Society, a TEDx Club, a MUN Society, Animal Welfare Committee, Community Welfare Club, etc. These add a lot more to the learning and fun component. I have served as a Secretary to the Karate Club and have been a part of numerous of them, namely, the Basketball Club, the Photography Club, the Trekking Club, the TAMID group, and the list goes on!

Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute – what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?

Anishka: Being a Psychology major, my classes begin at 8 am, but all my classes also end by 2 in the afternoon(each course have different schedule), giving me a lot of time throughout the day to complete my assignments, club work, Student Ambassador work, as well my personal internships and project work and studying for tests.

I usually do my work till the evening before my evening snacks. After tea time, I go around the campus for a nice walk, sometimes with my friends and sometimes all by myself. As dusk approaches and it gets darker, everyone starts getting into a merry mood preparing for any event or competition that might be happening. I too either go to any club meetings or group project meetings if scheduled or cheer for my house in the football practice matches with my friends. Sometimes, we also go out to the city for movies or dinner. The nightlife is very vibrant at FLAME giving us various opportunities to showcase our talent, socialize, and unwind.

More about FLAME University admission

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Anishka: The student-to-faculty ratio is 11:1 here. We have class sizes that I believe are ideal for learning interactively, participating in class freely, and helping teachers pay attention to each student and solve their doubts effectively.

From my own experiences as well as my observations, I can firmly say that the teacher-student relationship at FLAME is more like a mentor-mentee relationship. The professors are very much approachable and also accessible outside class hours. The best part about a friendly relationship is that it is not only confined to academics. We can also approach them and talk about our own personal issues sometimes to seek advice and guidance from them.

Careers360: What facilities do you have on campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Anishka: Coming to the facilities we have on campus, there is a long long list! We have a library with 46,000+ books, 15,000+ journals, and 5 different types of seating arrangements, 5 different cafes on campus for our out-of-time hunger that also deliver food to our residential blocks, world-class sports facilities with a sports complex designed as per the IFS norms, 4 gardens like the butterfly garden, botanical garden, flower valley, etc. The most unique and differentiating concept I really relish is the open spaces for recreation here. Apart from the Plaza, the biggest recreational space for students, the small stone benches, the open round seating, the Kund which is a man-made water body, etc.

Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Anishka: The hostel buildings are very comfortable, and most importantly, they are spacious. There are three types of room options that add to the facilitative part right from the selection process.

Each floor has water coolers that are always filled and are also cleaned every alternate day. All our residential buildings have two lifts each, facilitating our commute across the floors. Each room has its own balcony space, lockers, dressing tables, etc. A very small aspect that actually made me feel cared about was FLAME providing us with cloth stands as well. We have a very active housekeeping staff for each floor. Our rooms are cleaned once a day. At times, we can also request the staff to clean it again.

Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Anishka: FLAME has an in-campus infirmary. All basic treatment, vaccination, minor procedures (dressing, stitches) + all major medicines including antibiotics, skin-related creams, and eye ear drops. We have one male and one female doctor on campus 24x7 along with a visiting doctor. FLAME also has 2-3 ambulances on campus which can be availed not only during serious injuries but also to move across the campus in cases of fever etc. In case of very serious issues, we are taken to the Chellaram Multispeciality Hospital which is very close to the campus.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams, and other activities?

Anishka: Every student has their own schedules and class timings owing to the different major-minor combinations they have. But what is ensured is that each student gets enough time during the day to do their work. Initially, if it gets confusing or chaotic for anyone, the peer mentors and faculty advisors assigned to each student thoroughly help us structure our timetables and help us with work-life balance.

Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students’ point of view?

Anishka: The various types of clubs and societies are mentioned earlier but what I want to talk about here is their significance. These teach us much more than just making friends and doing that specific activity. All the clubs at FLAME are student-led with one coach advisor. This inculcates in us a sense of responsibility and polishes our teamwork skills, leadership skills, interpersonal communication, maintenance of data through Excel sheets, and a lot of other skills. These are important for all-around development and add to the holistic approach that FLAME has.

Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?

Anishka: We have a monthly and a quarterly newsletter that sums up all the happenings throughout that tenure. Apart from this, we also have other issues like The Ellipsis Newsletter, etc that are specific to the clubs or major events happening in that domain.

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Anishka: The open spaces for recreation are the popular hangouts at the institute. The most visited places nearby are FC road and Balewadi High Street, which is a street for shopping and street-side food, and the various malls with brand stores, and activities like bowling. But apart from the dining and recreational activities, we have trips and treks to the various forts and lakes around the city of Pune. All the historical sites, various museums, etc. are also frequently visited by the students.

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?

Anishka: Most of us spend our leisure time at campus relishing the beautiful gardens and open spaces at FLAME. One can also find us in groups laughing around and chilling in the various cafes on campus. Sundays, however, are mostly spent in our cozy rooms and sometimes roaming around the city. Something that all of us wait for to have a very relaxing leisure time is the music jam sessions like Swiftie Night (Taylor Swift songs) and Bollywood Hungama, etc where all the students come together, sing and dance, and have a fun-filled evening.

Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their experience of life at campus?

Anishka: The student’s voice is thoroughly heard at FLAME. As students, we are given the liberty to voice our experiences, opinions, and concerns. We can directly communicate with the department heads. A crucial part is also the mid-term and end-term faculty and course feedback that the students can give anonymously.

In terms of social media, FLAME students are very active on the institute's social media pages. We also have FLAME Feedback, FLAME Confessions, Mess at FLAME, etc pages on Instagram. We also have the opportunity to share our experiences through blogs and vlogs that are put up on LinkedIn, Youtube, etc.

Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?

Anishka: Most of our UG students opt for further study or take a break after UG, however, we do have a small proportion of UG students opting for placements. To assist us with the same, we have a very active Placements Office that helps and guides us throughout. There are mock interviews and workshops conducted to prepare students for the actual placement process. There is a special Placements office that helps every student with each step.

A few companies from the long list of companies Deloitte, Amazon, Vedanta, Tata, TCS, all the banks, Reliance, etc. We have Training Modules and Placement Reports on the website that anyone can go through these for detailed information making the entire process more transparent.
