Karunya University celebrated its 33rd Convocation Ceremony with great pride and grandeur on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Dr. D.G.S. Dhinakaran Auditorium on the university campus. The ceremony commenced at Karunya University with the Karunya Invocation Song, followed by the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Elijah Blessing, Vice Chancellor, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, graduates, parents, faculty members, and invitees. He also presented the Annual Report, highlighting the university's significant achievements in academics, research, innovation, industry collaborations, student accomplishments, and institutional development during the past academic year.
The Guest of Honour, Mr. R. Velusamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Managing Director, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., Chennai, delivered the Convocation Address. Congratulating the graduates, he encouraged them to embrace challenges with confidence and become leaders who create a positive impact on society. He emphasised that learning should continue throughout life and urged students to leverage innovation and technology to address real-world challenges. Highlighting India's growing technological capabilities, he remarked that the nation should move beyond being a consumer of technology to becoming a global creator of technology. He also stressed the importance of integrity, compassion, perseverance, and continuous learning as the foundations of a successful career.

During the ceremony, Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, Chancellor of Karunya University, conferred degrees upon the graduating students and congratulated them on reaching a significant milestone in their academic journey. In his Convocation Address, he described the occasion as the result of years of dedication, discipline, perseverance, and hard work. He expressed confidence that the graduates had not only acquired quality education but had also developed strong values, character, and a commitment to serve society during their years at Karunya University.

Speaking on the rapid advancements shaping the world, the Chancellor highlighted the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across engineering, healthcare, agriculture, business, education, and several other sectors. He encouraged the graduates to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills in AI and emerging technologies to remain relevant in an ever-changing world. He further inspired them to become entrepreneurs and innovators who create employment opportunities rather than merely seeking jobs. Acknowledging the invaluable role of parents, he thanked them for their unwavering support, sacrifices, and encouragement, stating that every graduate's success is equally a celebration of their parents' dedication. He concluded by praying that God would bless the graduates with wisdom, courage, good health, and success, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to their families, society, the nation, and the global community.
Mr. Samuel Paul Dhinakaran, Vice President of Karunya University, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning in today's rapidly evolving digital era. As part of Karunya University's commitment to social responsibility and inclusive development, wheelchairs and battery-operated mobility scooters were presented to persons with disabilities.
The Chancellor's Awards for academic excellence were presented to outstanding students across various disciplines. The awardees included Detty Riya Nimsi (B.Tech. Biomedical Engineering), Aaron Ando (B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Georgina (M.Tech. VLSI Design), Aishwarya (M.Sc. Forensic Science), and Mithra (B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture), in recognition of their exceptional academic performance.
A highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon Mr. R. Velusamy, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, remarkable contributions to the Indian automotive industry, and his distinguished service in advancing automotive innovation and electric mobility.
The convocation ceremony concluded on a joyous note with the participation of graduating students, their proud parents, faculty members, alumni, and distinguished guests, celebrating the achievements of the graduating class and marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
