ICFAI and Karkinos Healthcare Conducts Free Cancer Screening & Early Detection Camp under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan

In a significant initiative to strengthen rural healthcare access and promote preventive health awareness, the Centre for Women Development (CWD) of ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad, under the aegis of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), in collaboration with Karkinos Healthcare, organised a two-day Community Medical Wellness and Cancer Awareness Drive at Gopularam village near ICFAI Campus on September 26 and 27, 2026.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. A. Vinay Kumar, Vice Chancellor, ICFAI and Prof. S. Vijayalakshmi, Registrar, ICFAI , in the presence of a team of medical specialists led by Dr. Narayana Murthy Poduri, Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Reliance-Karkinos Healthcare, and former Director, TATA Cancer Centre, Tirupati.

On 26.9.2026, more than 220 villagers from ICFAI's five adopted villages Gopularam, Maharajpet, Pilligudla, Proddutoor and Donthanpally under UBA and including neighbouring settlements (Thandas), availed themselves of free medical consultations, health assessments and cancer screening services.

The initiative was conducted under a fully funded, zero-cost model for beneficiaries, with support from the Indian Cancer Society, Bengaluru, as the primary funding partner. Karkinos Healthcare served as the technical and clinical execution partner, providing medical expertise and screening support.

The programme was focused on cancer awareness, early detection, preventive healthcare, general wellness, medical consultation and referral support for individuals requiring further evaluation or treatment. By taking qualified medical professionals and screening facilities directly to rural communities, the initiative sought to improve health literacy, encourage timely medical intervention and address misconceptions and social stigma associated with cancer screening.

Prof. A. Vinay Kumar, Vice Chancellor, ICFAI said in his speech “The initiative reflects ICFAI’S commitment to social responsibility, community outreach and rural development through its UBA activities. The strong participation of villagers demonstrated the importance of taking preventive healthcare services closer to rural communities.”

Academic institutions play a pivotal role in driving rural social responsibility, and conducting such camps in adopted villages is an important step towards improving cancer awareness, promoting early detection and strengthening a culture of health and well-being at the grassroots level. Through such collaborations, we aim to make a lasting contribution to community healthcare and empower rural families with timely diagnostic and medical support.”

The collaboration between ICFAI, Karkinos Healthcare and the Indian Cancer Society, along with the active participation of local community representatives, marks a meaningful step towards strengthening preventive healthcare, cancer awareness and early detection services in rural communities.

The programme was attended by Sarpanches of adopted villages, students and staff members of ICFAI. The camp will continue on September 27 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, enabling more residents from the surrounding villages and tandas to access the services.
