Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. (a bit of the background, like graduation, place and any such thing)

Gunthala Ramya: My name is Gunthala Ramya, and I am from Telangana. I am currently pursuing my BTech in Computer Science Engineering with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Manav Rachna University.

I have always been someone who enjoys learning new technologies and applying them to solve real-world problems. Along with maintaining a strong academic record with a CGPA of around 9.4, I actively participate in internships, research projects, hackathons, and technical competitions because I believe practical exposure is equally important to academics.

I am particularly interested in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and AI-based healthcare solutions. Over the years, I have worked on projects related to healthcare, air quality prediction, recommendation systems, and skin disease diagnosis, which helped me strengthen both my technical and problem-solving skills.

Careers360: Tell us something about Manav Rachna University and what made you choose it

Gunthala Ramya: I am pursuing my graduation from Manav Rachna University, and choosing this university has been one of the best decisions for my growth both academically and professionally.

One of the major reasons I chose this university was because of the opportunities and exposure it provides to students from the very beginning. The college strongly focuses on practical learning, innovation, research, internships, and industry exposure instead of limiting students to only classroom learning.

A very unique initiative at our university is MR IMPACT, where students get an opportunity to work on real-world industry and research problems every semester for around three months. These opportunities are paid, and students get hands-on experience in solving practical problems and building real solutions. This helped us understand how industry-level projects actually work and improved our confidence tremendously.

Another thing I really appreciate about the university is that it mandates interdisciplinary projects, where students collaborate with students from other departments. This helped us broaden our horizons, improve teamwork, and learn how to build end-to-end applications by understanding multiple perspectives.

The faculty members and mentors are extremely supportive and constantly encourage students to explore new opportunities, participate in hackathons, work on research, and apply for internships and placements. The environment at the university is very growth-oriented, and it motivates students to keep learning and improving.

    Q. What is the course you are pursuing at Manav Rachna University and what made you choose this specialisation?

Gunthala Ramya: I am pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering with specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Manav Rachna University.

I chose AI and ML because, at the time I was joining college, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning were among the most trending and revolutionary technologies. I was fascinated by how AI was transforming industries like healthcare, education, automation, and environmental monitoring.

I wanted to be part of this transformation and build a secure future for myself in a field that is continuously evolving and creating impact globally. What attracted me even more was that AI allows us to solve real-world problems intelligently and creatively.

As I progressed through the course, my interest grew stronger, especially in areas like Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and NLP. The projects, research opportunities, and mentorship provided by the university helped me gain practical exposure and confirmed that I had chosen the right specialisation.

    Q. Is an internship mandatory at Manav Rachna University? If yes, where did you pursue it, and what was the duration? What were the steps to get into it?

Gunthala Ramya: Yes, internships are mandatory at Manav Rachna University. From the second year onwards, we are required to complete internships every summer, and we are also provided academic credits for them because the university strongly believes in practical learning and industry exposure.

I first completed an in-house internship at the Centre for Health Innovations, where I worked on an AI-based healthcare project. During this internship, I got the opportunity to work on real-world problems and gain hands-on experience in research and development.

After that, based on my work and performance, I got an opportunity to continue the same project under MR IMPACT, where I worked for around three months on a paid project. This experience was extremely valuable because it gave me practical exposure to real-time problem-solving, teamwork, and professional work culture.

Currently, I have also secured another internship opportunity at Ganpat University for a new project, and along with that, I am actively preparing for placements as well.

The process of getting these opportunities involved building technical skills, maintaining a good academic profile, participating in projects and hackathons, and continuously improving through mentorship and guidance from faculty members and the Career Resource Center.

Q: Please give details on the assistance you received from the faculty, peers, and placement office about the internships?

Gunthala Ramya: I believe one of the biggest strengths of Manav Rachna University is the support system provided by the faculty members, mentors, peers, and the Career Resource Center. Throughout our college journey, we continuously received guidance, encouragement, and mentorship.

The Career Resource Center regularly shared notifications and updates regarding internships, placements, hackathons, and various opportunities across multiple domains, not just limited to AI and ML. Through these updates, I got to know about many valuable opportunities that helped me grow professionally.

Our faculty members were always supportive and motivated us to try new things, participate in projects, and step out of our comfort zones. Whenever any company visited for placements or internships, our professors used to conduct extra preparation sessions, both online and offline, specifically tailored for that company and role. We were also provided with frequently asked interview questions, preparation documents, and mock interviews that helped us gain confidence before the actual interviews.

My peers also played a huge role in my journey. I was surrounded by very progressive and enthusiastic friends who were always ready to take on new challenges. We were constantly motivated and helped each other throughout projects, internships, and placements. Whenever I lost focus or confidence, my friends always helped me get back on track, and that positive environment really contributed to my growth.

    Q. How was your experience with the internship? What are the key takeaways that you can look back on from it?

Gunthala Ramya: My internship experience was extremely valuable and helped me grow both technically and personally. It gave me practical exposure to how real-world problems are solved and taught me that working on actual applications is very different from just learning theory in classrooms.

One of the biggest things I discovered during my internship was my strengths. I realised that I am good at communication, initiating work, collaborating with teams, and taking deadlines seriously. I always make sure to complete my tasks on time, and I never hesitate to ask for guidance from seniors whenever needed. I also understood that I have a strong learning capability because I genuinely enjoy learning new technologies and adapting quickly.

At the same time, I also faced challenges that helped me grow. Real-world problems come with many constraints, like collecting real-time data, handling incomplete or noisy information, and finding practical solutions under limitations. Initially, dealing with such uncertainties was difficult, but gradually I learned how to approach these challenges systematically and work through them as a team.

Another major challenge was balancing academics and internships simultaneously. Maintaining a CGPA of around 9.4 while working on internships and projects was not easy, but it significantly improved my time management and discipline.

What I enjoyed the most was the practical learning experience. I was always excited to go to my internship every day because I loved learning through implementation and real-time work. At the same time, I also realised how important theoretical concepts are because they formed the foundation that helped me perform well during my internship.

Overall, the experience taught me technical skills, teamwork, communication, discipline, time management, and most importantly, the confidence to work on real-world AI solutions.
