In January 2026, Ahmedabad University partnered with Miami University for a Winter Immersion Programme exploring the Indian academic ecosystem. Read more about the immersion programme in the full article shared by Ahmedabad University.
“A sound education requires an understanding of a student's world as much as it does of their curriculum. Recognising this, Ahmedabad University, in collaboration with Miami University, conducted a Winter Immersion Programme for Miami University students to explore the cultural nuances that shape global education systems. The programme moved beyond the classroom, encouraging undergraduates to engage with education as a socially responsive practice lying at the intersection of culture, community, history, and lived experience.
The programme encouraged students to observe education in action, question the context, and reimagine across cultures, acquiring a deeper, more nuanced understanding of what it means to teach and learn in a globalised world. Designed as an intensive, experiential engagement with the Indian education landscape, the programme blended dialogue, academic engagement, and field-based learning, inviting students to explore how education unfolds across classrooms, institutions, communities, and cities.

"Besides the academic lectures, visiting schools following different academic approaches, joining the heritage walk through the Old City, or learning about the cultural significance of Garba, were also vital experiences. There is so much more to education than what happens in a school; culture and life outside the classroom directly impact everything that happens within it. This cultural context has been essential for properly applying what we know to our field experiences," said Liv Balicki, programme participant and Miami University student.
"The collaboration between academic lectures and real-world field experience has been transformative. Observing the intersection of culture and policy in action, from diverse school systems to the energy of a middle school classroom, has given me a new perspective on global education. This journey has not only been informational but also helped me define the aspirations I hold for my own future students," said Maya Sinden, programme participant and Miami University student.
"I truly appreciated the variety of approaches we explored. The professors we spoke with shared such broad perspectives on life, the world, and pedagogy. Even after studying education for four years, I encountered entirely new ideas and viewpoints that I hadn't considered before. Engaging with such a diverse range of thought has been a highlight of the programme," Maya added.
The immersion reflects Ahmedabad University’s broader educational philosophy, which views learners as problem solvers shaped through interdisciplinary inquiry, research-led learning, and real-world engagement. Aligned with the University’s liberal education framework, the programme enabled students to engage with education in contexts where history, culture, and contemporary aspirations intersect, equipping them to understand learning as a tool for addressing complex challenges beyond the classroom.”
