Can anyone tell me about the NEST 2020 score to get into NISER or CEBS.I have got 65 marks and belonging to the OBC NCL category ,is there any chance to get into any of the institutions?

theeanonymous 15th Oct, 2020

Hello Suhana,

NEST is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National NISER, Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai DAE CEBS, Mumbai. The cutoffs vary with each category and it is mainly decided based on the number of seats available and the number of applicants every year. More than your marks your rank is what decides the admission chances. The percentile you need to have a fair chance is 90+ and for your category the previous year cutoff rank for NISER was 280 and for CEBS it was 60. A safe score in this exam is above 120.Hence you have less chance for admission.

Visit the below article for more details on cutoffs:

Which is the best book for nest general section?? Which is the best book for iiser aptitude test general test??

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 3rd Jul, 2020

There is no specified syllabus prescribed for General Ability section. According to the syllabus mentioned in the official website, his section might consist random questions from History, Mathematics, Geograph, Science, English, General Knowledge and Current Affairs. For Mathematics, you need to concentrate on: Numbers, HCF and LCM of Numbers, Decimal Fractions, Square Roots and Cube Roots, Average, Problems on Ages, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Time and Work, Pipes and Cistern, Time and Distance, Problems on Trains, Boats and Streams, Alligation, Simple and Compound Interest, Logarithms, Area, Volume and Surface areas, Calendar, Clocks, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Reasoning, Sitting Arrangements, Blood relations and Data Interpretation at Class 10 level. So you can stick with NCERT for this.

In English section, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given paragraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation.

Word Power Made Easy (by Norman Lewis)
This is the go-to book to improve your vocabulary. It is not a book to be read but a book to work with daily to enrich your vocabulary.

High School Grammar and Composition( by Wren and Martin)
It is a very good book for people who want to improve their grammar skills. It helps to understand and conceptualise different aspects of grammar and it is a must have book for anyone with poor grasp on verbal ability or who wants to make up with the basics of english.

For other topics, you can refer to NEST exam guide. News papers, Manorama Year book should help you for this section.

Subject wise NCERT Textbooks of class 11 and 12 are best for basic preparation. Apart from NCERTs, you can prepare and practice from Concepts of Physics by HC Verma, Aptitude Test Problems by Krotov. For chemistry, A Textbook of Organic Chemistry for IITJEE by RK gupta and IIT Chemistry by OP Aggarwal. IIT Mathematics by RD sharma and Higher Algebra by Hall and Knight- these two books are best for preparation. KN Bhatia's Elementary biology for Class 12.
