You should first know the expected rank in IIT JAM exam. to get into the top IITs is you should have to secure a rank of below 200 if you are from a general category for mathematics.

If you want to get admission into MSc biotechnology then you should give IIT JAM exam with the subject biotechnology only. The subject code for biotechnology in IIT JAM exam is BT. Best of luck.

Every IISER has a different minimum rank every year depending on the number of applicants for getting an interview call letter.
