See, EEE is a very theoretical branch, or in other words it focus very much on pure electrical concepts like circuits and systems, and other subjects related to the machinery of electric transmission.
While ECE mainly deals with semiconductors, digital signal processing and other subjects relating to the communication domain. Now you will easily get ECE in many engineering colleges but finding EEE is not vey easy as very few engineering colleges have it. Now, placements in both is great but with ECE you'll have an edge in many government jobs like the IES. So, measure both the pros and cons and take the decision accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question. All the best!

Hello Sir/Mam,
Since you have not mentioned the category of your son so considering it as General category. If wrong then kindly correct me in the comment section below.
See till now the official qualifying cut-offs have not been released and the qualifying cut-off percentiles are released along with final result of JEE-Main 2022 which will be released after both the sessions i.e. most probably in August '22.
But o n such percentile, being a General candidate he has very less chances to qualify for JEE-Advance 2022 but still the cutoffs for this year have not released yet officially.
As the cut-offs are released along with the JEE-Main 2022 result so for now you can get an idea from JEE-Main 2021 qualifying cut-offs that are enlisted below :-
==>> Common Rank List (CRL) - 87.8992241-100.0000000 Percentile
==>> GEN-EWS - 66.2214845-87.8950071 Percentile
==>> Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) - 68.0234447-87.8950071 Percentile
==>> Scheduled Caste (SC) - 46.8825338-87.8950071 Percentile
==>> Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 34.6728999 87.8474721 Percentile
==>> PwD - 0.0096375-87.8273359 Percentile
Note that in above table it is not the actual cut-off for JEE-Main 2022 but previous year's cut-off.
You can check out previous year's cut-off trends from the link given below :-

With General category, on such percentile he might not be able to get any of the NITs through JEE-Main score but he can go for some state government engineering colleges or some private engineering colleges.
To have a list of all those colleges which you can get based upon your JEE-Main score or rank you can use JEE-Main College Predictor:-

With a 4707 rank in IMUCET and being an ST candidate, you have a good chance of getting admission in Indian Maritime University (IMU) campuses or its affiliated institutes. ST category seats have lower cut-offs, so your rank gives you an advantage. You may get branches like B.Sc. Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, or others depending on your preference and availability. Keep an eye on the official counselling schedule and be ready with your documents. Fill your choices wisely during counselling, starting from top campuses. Stay positive—your category rank will help improve your chances of getting a good course and college.
