IIT JAM Eligibility 2026

Students are required to check the education requirements to get admission to their desired IIT JAM courses. The IIT JAM eligibility percentage is the minimum marks aspirants must have secured in the subjects to be eligible for the exam. IIT JAM 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Categories	IIT JAM Eligibility
General/ OBC	Candidates should pass the qualifying exam with a 55% aggregate or 5.5 out of 10 CGPA. In case, when a candidate is promoted in the qualifying exam without a marksheet, he/she must have the promotion certificate or another certificate or document as evidence for promotion including the names of the taken subjects and marks scored in the subjects by him/her in the semester/year. The promotion certificate or document should be signed by the head of the institute to provide evidence for the minimum educational requirements (MEQ).
SC/ ST/ PWD	Candidates should pass the qualifying exam with a 50% aggregate or 5 out of 10 CGPA. In case, when a candidate is promoted in the qualifying exam without a marksheet, he/she must have the promotion certificate or another certificate or document as evidence for promotion including the names of the taken subjects and marks scored in the subjects by him/her in the semester/year. The promotion certificate or document should be signed by the head of the institute to provide evidence for the minimum educational requirements (MEQ).

Yes, you can appear in IIT JAM with 65% in 12th because you don't need 12th marks in IIT JAM. In IIT JAM they need your bachelor's degree, and you must have a minimum aggregate mark of 55% in this degree; then you can appear in IIT JAM. This means overall IIT JAM doesn't need 12th marks; instead, it needs bachelor's degree marks.

IIT JAM is for Msc.courses which are after a bachelor's degree.Eligiblity for IIT JAM Biotechnology you need a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology,Biology,Life Sciences with atleast 55% marks.

Maths in 12th is not compulsory for Biotechnology you just need a relevant Bachelor's degree to be eligible
