The Common Universities Entrance Test, or CUET, is an entrance test conducted to enroll students in major universities like DU, JNU, and other centrally sponsored universities. This exam has now become mandatory if students want to take admission to any central university after clearing high school. This entrance test is conducted every year, tentatively in May, by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Board marks are not considered along with CUET; however, they may be checked to verify the minimum eligibility criteria. There are 27 domain subjects given by the CUET UG, under which biology is also enlisted.

CUET Biology Exam Pattern

The number of questions in CUET biology is 50, out of which 40 have to be answered. Each correct answer is rewarded with 5 marks, which brings the maximum mark to 200. Negative marking is applicable, where one mark is deducted for each incorrect attempt. The total duration of the exam is 45 minutes, and the paper is available in English and any of the 13 languages chosen by the student.

CUET Biology Syllabus

The biology syllabus is divided into multiple units; however, some units and topics are more important than others. The five most important units and a few essential subtopics associated with them are discussed below:

  • Unit I is about reproduction, under which reproduction in organisms, sexual reproduction in flowering plants, human reproduction, and reproductive health topics are important.
  • Unit II is genetics and evolution, under which topics like heredity and evolution, the molecular basis of inheritance, and evolution are important.
  • Unit III is biology and human welfare, which contains certain key topics like health and disease, improvement in food production, and microbes in human welfare.
  • Unit IV is biotechnology and its application, under which the aspirant must essentially study the principles and processes of biotechnology and the application of biotechnology in health and agriculture.
  • Unit V is ecology and environment, in which topics like organisms and the environment, ecosystems, biodiversity and its conservation, and environmental issues are important.

Tips for Aspirants to Prepare for CUET Biology

Remain Updated With The Official Syllabus

It is essential to keep up with the structure and format of the test paper. Staying updated and well-acquainted will help you understand the paper better, which will consequently help you do well in the exam. Checking out the important topics and units containing maximum marks is essential. This will help the aspirant improve in his weaker areas. It is also important because sometimes last-minute changes or updates can occur in the syllabus.

For the biology subject, the aspirant must focus on the full syllabus of NCERT Class 12 and study each of its topics well. Sometimes, not all the topics are covered in NCERT, ISC, or boards; therefore, the student must have a complete list of all the topics in CUET UG Biology.

Learn About the Exam Pattern

The aspirant must go through the old papers to get an idea of the type and structure of questions. They must be aware of the marking scheme and negative marking to prevent themselves from losing marks on doubtful questions. Solving the previous year’s papers also sheds light on time management and helps to manage it efficiently during the final exams.

Set A Proper Preparation Strategy

Noting down a proper preparation plan is very important to set the correct mental frame and figure out things around them. A proper timetable has to be followed so that things do not get overwhelming at the last moment. Setting a proper strategy will also help to understand the time division and weightage for each chapter. The aspirant can start to prepare for the tedious topics beforehand and have enough time for their revision at the end. It is advised that the aspirant set his strategies before going into the books and study materials.

Revision is Important

Sometimes, studying one topic after another can burden the mind and confuse the student. Biology anyway needs a lot of memorization; therefore, it is essential that the student keep the last one or two weeks only for revision. Revising the topics will help to brush up on everything and clear up any last-minute doubts or confusion, if any. Recalling important topics and concepts via revision in a proper flow will help with better scoring.

Keep Practising

Practising is essential to acquiring knowledge of any particular skill, concept, or hobby. It implies here also that practising as many sample papers and questions as possible will help the aspirant understand the topics better.

Biology has too many diagrams that cannot be mugged up by observation. Practising the diagrams will help you know the correct labelling, which can often be messed up. Using different colours to distinguish between different parts will be a great help as well. Biology concepts may be too theoretical, which is also difficult to master. Drawing flowcharts or studying in points will help break the topic into steps, which is easier to grasp.

This subject also has many complex terminologies and names of scientists that need to be memorised. The aspirant must note each of them and focus on the spellings as well to prevent any confusion. Medical terminologies are usually an amalgam of root words, prefixes, and suffixes; therefore, the aspirant must try to evaluate the meaning by breaking down the long word and understanding its components.

Do Not Only Rely On Random Online Study Material

There is no doubt that online information is vast and limitless, but scattered data may break the flow of study. Proper study materials and books have topics in flow along with diagrams, which will help the aspirant complete the topic in one go. Also, multiple online sites can confuse the student and may sometimes contain false data as well. Choose only reliable online sources and trusted websites for this. The aspirant can also discuss with their teachers or mentors about the books to pick and stay in contact with them to remain alert about the exam.

Hope this article helps prepare you well for CUET UG Biology. Be determined and consistent with your study plan to ace this exam. All the best!

Hello ayush hope you are doing well

BSc is a future oriented course which emphasis on research as well as teaching oriented degree It gives you a depth on that subject But it depends on your future what you want to do. Btech is industry based course and Bsc is a research based academic degree and NEET is a entry level of professional course If you have enough courage to take a drop and crack any entrance of Engineering or neet for good colleges then you can drop a year. But firstly make sure that your drop year should be worth enough in future.it totally depends on you how you are going to spend your coming year.

If you are not sure about any of these courses and want to take admission this year go for bachelor in science in private universities as they still open their admission process.
