Top Science Colleges in Chennai - Chennai has always been a study hub for the science and technology enthusiast in India. There are some top science colleges in Chennai such as Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, Loyola College, Madras Christian College, etc. The city does not only attract students from the southern part of India but each year students across the country enroll themselves into different UG and PG science programmes offered by these colleges/ institutes.

The top science colleges of Chennai given below are listed based on National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking accorded by the Ministry of Human resource Development in the ascending order. The colleges are affiliated by the University of Madras. The admissions in these colleges are done through the University of Madras admissions process, which starts in the month of April.

The University has 68 departments, 18 schools and a total of 109 affiliated colleges. In addition, the list also contains the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras which offers admissions in postgraduate science programmes and is considered as one of the top science colleges in Chennai.

Presidency College

The Madras University affiliated college offers multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the field of Science. The college has been ranked third in the country according to NIRF ranking 2019. It offers various UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D courses.

Presidency College Admission Criteria - For postgraduate programmes, the admissions are done with the help of an entrance test and an interview. While for undergraduate programmes, the vacant seats are filled based on the last qualifying examination marks followed by an interview.

It is an autonomous college affiliated to the University of Madras. The college has been awarded with “Centre of Excellence” by UGC in 2014. It also ranks sixth on the top colleges around the country, according to NIRF ranking, 2019 by MRD.

Loyola College Admission Criteria - Candidates are shortlisted based on their last qualifying examination marks for UG programmes. The shortlisted candidates are invited for an interview round.
