Group Discussion (GD) is a technique that is interactive among the group of participants and aims at exploring and analyzing issues (topic), including the exchange of creative ideas, and opinions in a specific time duration. GD is evaluative for companies/institutes wherein the platform for such a discussion is used to check the qualities of individuals in terms of team-building skills, leadership, communication, body language, and knowledge to name a few.

In a case when the topic of discussion of GD is disseminated on the spot, there is the likelihood that one is not conversant with the topic, however, if the given topic is good enough for you to outperform, one must take leadership in order to start the discussion and set tone of the same. One may start the discussion by defining the phrase of a topic, the meaning of the topic, and, if possible relevant data/figures can be spoken, the point to be kept in mind is that communication from the beginning must be clear, concise, and logical. To gain confidence, eye contact should be maintained with participants and eye contact should be kept rotating within the group.

Always be an active listener, a good listener can always make good points out of other perspectives and mold the discussion in your way, a word of caution try not to deviate from the topic. In case you find you have logical data for support of the previous speaker, one may start by adding to the previous speaker. At all-time maintain discipline and contribute to a constructive discussion, even if your opinion is not in sync with others, do not raise your voice or show any disgraceful body language.

Keep a watch over the group and if you find someone not participating even once, take this opportunity to invite him/her for an opinion. Do not dominate the discussion and do not lose your cool even when the discussion becomes intense, always avoid irrelevant comments or gestures, and keep rotating your turn but do not overspeak.

An interview is a purposeful exchange of ideas, the art of answering questions, and effective communication between two or more persons. The primary objectives of a personal interview are to assess a candidate's skills involving problem-solving abilities, communication skills, information gathering, personality, experience, motivation, and overall suitability for a job by evaluating their professional background, understanding their career goals, and gauging their personality to fit within the company/institute.

Though it is not very favorable to assess an individual in this limited-time interaction, it is an opportunity for an individual to showcase the capabilities, abilities, and skills that are a part of the Submitted Resume and beyond. The interviewer has limited time to assess one’s overall personality, thereby providing another opportunity for the candidate to mould the Interview in the direction of his/her corner strong points.

It is always desirable to answer/interact confidently and genuinely with every question. This creates a positive impression. Whether you know the answer or don’t know, you must be frank in responding to the interviewer. You might answer correctly in a few instances, but the interviewer may not find it appropriate, at such times, the interviewer may suggest you the right information. Take it in a positive spirit, and instead of arguing with the interviewer, consider it a knowledge booster. However, one needs to make sure that the answer you are trying to give is explained to the interviewer calmly and thus make him understand what you actually meant.

The answers to the questions raised must be in sync with the submitted information to the company/institute and all the information must be precise and clear. As a candidate, the power of listening is a must in order to deeply understand the real intent of the question and answer it accordingly. Interviewer may like to test basic human traits in you like honesty, One must answer every professional and personal question honestly. Remember, at times there are no right or wrong answers. It all depends on how well you respond to each question. Refrain from bluffing while answering any question. Instead of lying about the question you don’t know, it is better to skip it.

To remain balanced and not to be rude is the key rather than answering arrogantly. Punctuality is also one of the most imperative factors. It creates a good impression and shows how seriously you take your work. Your body posture can speak so many things about you. With the right body posture, you give a positive vibe to the interviewer for having a proper conversation with you. A right posture means to sit straight and lean slightly forward. Do not fidget or play with your hair. This is a casual approach, and some interviewers may not like it.

Securing admission to an MBA program or excelling in campus placements hinges on a candidate's ability to perform well in Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). While GD tests your ability to articulate ideas, lead, and collaborate in a group setting, PI evaluates your overall personality, problem-solving abilities, and alignment with the program or organization’s values.

The key to success lies in thorough preparation, confidence, and self-awareness. Being well-versed in current affairs, practicing structured and logical communication, and maintaining a calm and composed demeanor can significantly enhance performance. GD demands active listening, meaningful contributions, and team engagement, while PI calls for honesty, clarity, and the ability to present yourself authentically. Ultimately, GD and PI are opportunities to demonstrate your strengths and stand out as a candidate.

Yes, DSM DTU (Delhi Technological University, Department of Management Studies) does accept CMAT score for admission to its MBA programme. Many management institutes in India use CMAT as one of the valid entrance exams along with CAT, MAT, or GMAT, and DTU’s management department is among those that consider CMAT scores during the selection process. When you apply, your CMAT percentile will be used along with your academic record, group discussion or writing ability test and personal interview performance to decide your final merit for admission.

Nirma University also accepts CMAT scores for its MBA and related management programmes. Like most private and state universities, Nirma University uses multiple national and state level entrance exams as part of its eligibility and shortlisting criteria, and CMAT is commonly included in that list. After shortlisting based on the entrance score, institutes typically conduct further rounds such as group discussion or personal interview before final selection.

Because both DSM DTU and Nirma University consider CMAT, your preparation for CMAT can be beneficial if you want to keep your options open for MBA admissions. Make sure you check the latest admission brochure of each institute before applying so you know the exact cutoffs, weightage of different rounds and other requirements like work experience or minimum academic marks. All the best.

For admission to the first year M. Pharm at Nirma University, Ahmedabad, you need to apply through the Nirma University online admission portal when the registration window opens. The admission process generally begins after GPAT results are announced, because M. Pharm seats are allotted mainly on the basis of GPAT score, followed by counselling. If seats remain vacant, non-GPAT applicants may also be considered depending on the university’s guidelines.

Right now, the admission form may not be active if the academic cycle hasn’t started. So you should regularly check the official Nirma University website under the Institute of Pharmacy section to know when the M. Pharm application form is released. Once the form opens, you will have to register online, fill in academic details, upload required documents, pay the application fee, and wait for the merit list and counselling schedule.

If you want, you can also mention your intended specialization during the application process. Keep GPAT scorecard (if applicable), B. Pharm marksheets, and other certificates ready in advance to avoid last-minute issues. All the best.

Hi Akash,

It is good to see institutions like NMIMS have selected you for master of law based on your CLAT PG scores. If we compare the three then to be very clear:

  • NMIMS Mumbai has strong reputation for it's Kirti Mehra School of Law and has got good academic value.
  • Nirma University is also another good after NMIMS, and has strong reputation for law studies in Gujarat.
  • The DNLU is comparatively newer than the other two and it will take some time to be equivalent to them.

For the best academic value and recognition choose NMIMS, or the Nirma University is also good. The DNLU is newer and can be considered as well but if we choose any one, then it is NMIMS.

ALL THE BEST !
