AICTE Vice Chairman Visits IDE Bootcamp at Presidency University

Presidency University, Bengaluru, hosted a three-day Innovation, Design & Entrepreneurship (IDE) Bootcamp for principals and teachers of PM SHRI Schools from January 7 to January 10. The programme was part of a national initiative held at eight centres in six states across the country.

On the third day, Dr. Abhay Jere, Vice Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Chief Innovation Officer, Ministry of Education, Government of India, attended the event at Presidency University. He spoke to the principals and teachers and said that schools should encourage innovation, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking from an early age. He advised teachers to move away from rote learning and help students learn through curiosity, experiments, and real-life examples.

Several senior officials from Presidency University were present at the programme. They included Dr. Nissar Ahmed, Chancellor; Dr. S. J. Thiruvengadam, Vice Chancellor (In-charge); and Dr. Sivaperumal, Pro Vice Chancellor, along with faculty members and coordinators.

The bootcamp was inaugurated by Dr. B. K. Das, Distinguished Scientist and Director General, Electronics and Communication Systems, DRDO, and Dr. Vidya Kumari from 'Samagra Shikshana' Karnataka. Officials from AICTE also joined the event online.

In his address, Dr. Das underscored the need to cultivate innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills from the school level, stating that India’s future strength in science, technology, and strategic sectors depends on nurturing creative and inquisitive minds early in education.

Dr. Vidya Kumari, senior official from Samagra Shikshana, Karnataka, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the crucial role of school principals and teachers in translating national innovation and education goals into impactful classroom practices. The programme supports the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The IDE Bootcamp aims to give PM SHRI school principals and teachers practical training in design thinking, innovative teaching methods, entrepreneurship basics and problem-solving skills. This will help them create a culture of innovation in their schools. The programme supports the PM SHRI Schools mission and highlights the important role of teachers in building a future-ready education system
