The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited proposals from colleges and universities to start community colleges and B. Voc degree programme under the schemes, National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) and National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF).

To promote the programme, under the schemes the UGC has planned to provide additional grants to colleges apart from the allocations under the 12th Five Year Plan General Development Assistance.

The colleges have been asked to submit their proposals under both the schemes by April 15, 2014.

Prof Ved Prakash, Chairman, UGC in his letter to all the central universities, deemed universities and state universities fit for receiving grants from the Commission said, “Creating skilled man-power to meet the growing demands of the economy is the need of the hour and it is in this context that the Commission intends to introduce B. Voc degree programme and certificate/diploma courses through Community Colleges in a big way.”

The UGC has launched the two new schemes Community Colleges and B. Voc Degree programme under the NSQF and NVEQF earlier this year in universities and colleges.
