The Results for the National Eligibility Test (NET), conducted on December 28, 2014 has been delayed and around five lakh candidates who appeared in the test are still awaiting their results. The national level entrance exam for college lecturer posts and junior research fellowships for Ph.D is held across multiple centers across the country in 100 subjects twice a year, in December and June. Since this year, the exam conducting body- University Grants Commission (UGC) has handed over the examination procedure to the CBSE, and it is the first time when the results have been delayed. As per the UGC trend of declaring the results around 3rd week of April, the test takers were left waiting for the result announcement by the CBSE. The delay has led to a lot of confusion amongst the candidates, which has been exacerbated by ambiguous responses by the CBSE authorities.
Aspirants have been calling and mailing the concerned authorities for the past several days but are unable to receive any responses from the authorities. Most of the premier institutes like IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Roorkee and several others will have their admission counselling in May end or June. Students are currently forced to take up admission under regular category for their Ph.D whereas it may so happen that they might clear the NET exam and get a JRF awarded.
Deepak says that, "I had appeared for the December 2014 NET exam, but I still had to fill the form for June 2015 because there was hardly any time left for the last date and I was worried as to what will happen if the results still don't come or the website crashes”. Several others like Deepak from Delhi were confused about the future course of action, especially after the CBSE released application forms for the June 2015 slot. Since the last date to fill the online application for the June slot was May 15, many students were compelled to pay a form fee of Rs 600 for the same. The CBSE website was temporarily unavailable for around a week and had no notice regarding the status of results whatsoever.
Students have been airing their grievances on online forums and Facebook groups. Many of them were demanding an extension in the deadline for the June 2015 application date which did not happen.
