There is good news for Delhi University aspirants. This year, DU won’t be having any major changes in admission policy, as confirmed by the university officials. Earlier it was suggested by the University of Delhi officials that there won’t be any admissions more than the allotted number of seats. But the move has not been taken and the university shall be admitting all those students who meet the cutoff, irrespective of the total sanctioned seats in the respective programmes.“Everything you wanted to know about DU admissions is here. Last year, six of the DU colleges were charged while they refused to admit students who were eligible. They did so because they had already admitted more number of students than the total sanctioned seats.

Over admission is a problem for the students as well as the varsity, as it has been seen in the past. Last year when the University introduced Four Year Undergraduate Programme, a total of 2,56,024 registration took place. However University of Delhi currently offers around 54,000 seats in various programmes under different disciplines at UG level. The numbers clearly show that nearly 4 times more number of students than the seats applied for the the UG programme. As a result, several students had to take the departmental examinations in unwanted places like the laboratories, canteens, etc. Some of the students of the university were forced to write their exams in a school field where a tent was installed for them.
According to the official sources, the university had sought suggestions of the Principals on the matter and it was confirmed that the aspirants are free to apply as many colleges and courses they can, as per the existing admission policy.
It is expected that the university will be announcing this year‘s admission policy in the third week of May.
