Prof. J.M.Khurana was one of the distinguished speakers for May 23 Open Day Session of DU. He was joined by the other eminent speakers, Prof. Umesh Rai (Director, UDSC), Dr. I.S.Bakshi (Principal, Dyal Singh College), Dr. Hemlata Reddy (Principal, Venkateshwara College), Dr. Shashi Tyagi (Principal, Gargi College), Dr. Inderjeet Dagar (Principal, CVS), Dr. Meenakshi Gopinath (Principal, LSR).

The parents as well as the aspirants were quite inquisitive to know about the Delhi University 2014 Admission Criteria. The distinguished speakers cleared doubts and confusions regarding several queries in addition to the reservation criteria.

Delhi University, being a central university offers Reservation Criteria as per the government regulations and are as below –

Those who belong to the Scheduled Caste would be given a reservation of 15% and 7.5 % for Scheduled Tribes.

Those coming from the Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy layer) would be offered 27% reservation of the total allotted seats in the discipline. To this point, Prof. Khurana clarified that the candidates must show the caste certificate issued by the prominent authority in addition to income certificate issued Central Government and not by a State Government.

There is a 3% reservation for the candidates who are physically challenged. Prof. Khurana added a note to this quota that the reservation will be given only to the candidates who possess the disability certificates issued in their name by a government hospital. Moreover the certificate should mention 40% disability of the candidate. In addition to these, Prof. Khurana assured the physically challenged that they will be allotted seats in the colleges offering courses of their choice.

The University of Delhi offers a 5% reservation for the candidates who are widow/children of the war martyrs. The reservation quota is applicable for the following category –

  • Widows/Wards of Defence personnel killed in action
  • Wards of serving personnel and ex-servicemen disabled in action
  • Widows/Wards of Defence personnel who died in peace time with death attributable to military service
  • Wards of Defence personnel disabled in peace time with disability attributable to military service
  • Wards of Ex-servicemen personnel and serving personnel including police personnel who are in receipt of Gallantry Awards
  • Above categories are also applicable for Para military personnel

Prof. Khurana added a point to the Defense Quota that such candidates will be required to get their names registered at Room No. 218, II Floor, New Administrative Block, North Campus, University of Delhi. However those applying for Science courses need to get their names registered at the Faculty of Science, North Campus, University of Delhi.

In addition to the above reservation criteria, Delhi University also offers Sports Quota to the pertinent candidates. The quota also includes Extra Curricular Activities. The central university offers a 5% reservation to all those candidates who possess the certificates at different levels for their sports and ECA. Prof. Khurana clarified here that no colleges have been empowered to decide the number of seats to be filled in under this quota which should not be more than 5% of the total number of allotted seats in each discipline.
