As many as 17 Indian Universities have been represented in the list of top 800 World Universities of Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2015-16. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru maintaining its past year record, is ranked among the top 300 World Universities representing India in THE World University Rankings 2015.According to THE World University Rankings 2015, some of the Universities were ranked lower than that of last year. Where Panjab University was ranked among top 300 World Universities last year, this year it has been ranked between 501 – 600 World Universities. Moreover, the top 400 Universities mention the prestigious IITs – IIT Bombay (351-400), IIT Delhi (401-500), IIT Kharagpur (401-500), IIT Madras (401-500), IIT Guwahati (501-600), IIT Kanpur (501-600), IIT Roorkee (501-600).
Moving down in the list of THE World University Rankings 2015, some premier public Universities including Jadavpur University, Panjab University, Aligarh Muslim University, Andhra University, University of Calcutta, University of Delhi and Savitribai Phule Pune University are ranked among top 800 Universities in the World. The list also mentions a private University – Amrita University ranked between 601 and 800 and an autonomous University – BITS Pilani as well at 601-800 among the World Universities.
The good news is that many of these Universities have improved their positions from that of last year. While previously, IISc Bengaluru had been ranked in the range of 276-300 World Universities, this year it has improved to a range of 251-300. In addition to this, a total of 13 Indian Universities were placed in the list of top 800 World Universities 2015-16 Rankings.
This year 400 more Universities have been ranked than that of the last year’s list of 400 across the world, in which the list of Indian Universities has improved from 4 to 17.

THE Asia University Rankings 2015
Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru has been ranked at 39 among the top 100 Asian Universities which wasn’t in the list of last year. Another such University is IIT Bombay which has been ranked at 57, as per THE Asian University rankings 2015.
However, Universities like IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati and Jadavpur University which were ranked 55, 74 and 76, respectively could not secure a position this year.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), which is one of the most sought after University for Higher Education in India, could not secure a position in the list of top 800 World Universities. However, the prestigious University has been ranked at 96 among THE Asia University Rankings 2015.
As per THE Asia University Rankings 2015, as many as 9 Indian Universities have been ranked among the top 100 Asian Universities which is one less than the rankings of last year.

Other Top Universities across the World
California Institute of Technology, USA has been ranked as the top among 800 World Universities, followed by University of Oxford, UK at 2nd position, Stanford University, USA at Rank 3 and University of Cambridge, UK at 4th. The four prestigious US Universities – MIT, Harvard University, Princeton University and University of Chicago have been ranked at 5, 6, 7 and 10, respectively. Imperial College of London, UK also finds its place at 8 and ETH Zurich at 9 in the top 10 THE World University Rankings.
A total of 800 countries have been represented in THE World Rankings 2015-2016. As many as 147 institutions are represented from The United States, followed by United Kingdom with 78 institutions. The other countries with their Universities in the top 100 are Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Singapore.
