Careers360: What factors make it one of the leading colleges?Dr Shamim Shaikh: The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of IT & Biotechnology has B.Sc Biotechnology, M.Sc Biotechnology under the Faculty of Science. We also have two more Master’s degree programs-M.Sc Medical Biotechnology and M.Sc Bioinformatics, as well as a one year Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics (ADB), especially designed for students looking to study abroad after their 3 year Bachelors’ degree, under the faculty of Inter-disciplinary studies.

For the effective execution of these programs, the institute has an impressive infrastructure housed in 55,000 sq.ft area with state- of- the-art laboratories (19 laboratories), class rooms and qualified faculty from diverse streams and specializations. Being an institute having PG courses, we have a well-developed research facility and infrastructure to support the ongoing teaching and research initiatives.
The institute has received funding from government agencies like DST, DBT, AYUSH, MoEF and ICMR for various research projects. Being a part of the Deemed to be University, our syllabi are revised periodically according to the needs of the time. Careers360: What extra-curricular life can students expect at the institute?Dr Shamim Shaikh: Although we have an academics centered educational atmosphere in the institute, ample scope and opportunities are provided to students for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The institute has a very active NSS program where activities for societal benefit are carried out. With the presence of a huge playground in the campus, sports is given due importance. Sports week, cultural week along with scientific activities are a part of the academic schedule. Cultural week provides opportunities to showcase their personal talents along with participation in events like quiz competitions etc. Ample opportunities to students for participation in conferences and other events organized by the university as well as other institutes/universities. Scientific talks by eminent persons from academia as well as industry are organized on a regular basis.
