Dr. Jayashree Ghosh, Principal, Anna Adarsh College for Women, talks to Meha Mathur in an interview and shares about the good aspects and challenges of the college.

Careers360: What are the strengths and USPs of your college, which have enabled it to become one of the top 100 colleges of the country?

Dr. Jayashree Ghosh:

Strengths and USP:

  • College has set a benchmark in academic excellence as evidenced by the number of University ranks scored year after year. The college had 213 University ranks with 15 first ranks in the year 2015-16, 206 University ranks with 13 first ranks in the year 2016-17 and 205 University ranks with 11 first ranks in the academic year 2017-18.

  • 98% of the faculty has approval as per UGC norms by the affiliated university. We have 98 faculty with Ph.D. and 92 with NET/SET qualification.

  • Structured protocol is strictly followed by staff and students for administration and academic process.

  • Many faculties are recognised Research Guides.

  • Faculties are approved members of Board of studies for university and affiliated colleges, examination board members, members of research bodies, etc.,

  • Faculties have been nominated as convenors, member of academic audit, member in TNPSC commission, member in affiliation commission of Universities and government bodies.

  • Intake of students from all strata of society, both economically and socially backward classes.

  • Admission for all the programmes is in high demand and the college has full strength of 5300 students having only 3% of attrition rate.

  • Innovative micro scale analysis developed by the department of chemistry as an eco friendly measure which has been adopted by many colleges for chemical analysis.

  • Sport and games are an integral and essential part of campus life. The college is proud to share that more than 2500 students actively take part in various sporting activities out of which 15 are National players, 5 University Blues (who are part of University Team representing Tamil Nadu), 80 state-level players and 25 inter zonal players.

  • In recognition of the institution’s contribution towards sports the University of Madras has appointed the Principal as chair-person for Zone B women’s tournament.

  • DSpace software has been installed to manage institutional repository.

Dr. Jayashree Ghosh:

  • A total of 2500 students have participated in Sports, Games and other events of which 15 are National players, 5 University Blues (who are part of University Team representing Tamil Nadu), 80 state-level players and 25 inter zonal players.

  • 2000 students have won medals /awards in Sports, Games and other sports related events at the State and University levels.

  • A total of 1012 students have participated in various cultural activities.

  • 115 students have won medals /awards in cultural at the State and University levels
