JAM 2016 Application Form - The online application form of JAM 2016 is available from September 2, 2015. Candidates are required to upload their photograph, signature and any documents if applicable as per specifications. Candidates can pay the Application Fees by Challan or online. The last date to download the SBI Challan is October 11, 2015 and the last date for paying the Application fees by Echallan is October 14, 2015. The last Date for Registering is October 14, 2015.  Check the Application Procedure for JAM 2016 in detail below.
LatestIIT-JAM 2017 Notification has been announced, Online Application Form of JAM 2017 will start from September 5, 2016.

Changes in JAM 2016 Test Paper or Exam Centre is not allowed but changes in Gender or Category is allowed on payment of a fee till November 6, 2016.


What should you keep ready before filling the JAM 2016 Application Form?


1. Photograph: The specifications are

  • The photograph must be in colour and must be taken in a professional studio.

  • The photograph must be taken in a White or a very light background.

  • The photograph must have been taken after July 01, 2015.

  • In the photograph, the face should occupy about 50% of the area, and with a full-face view looking into the camera directly.

  • The main features of the face must not be covered by hair of the head, any cloth or any shadow.

  • The Forehead, eyes, nose and chin should be clearly visible in the photograph

  • Candidates with spectacles must avoid glare on glasses in the photo and must wear clear glasses only.

  • Photos with candidates wearing spectacles with dark or tinted glasses, sun glasses, goggles are not allowed

  • The image should be on a standard 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm print and must be scanned into a JPEG format

  • The Maximum pixel resolution for JPEG is 480 x 640 and  Minimum pixel resolution is 240 x 320.

2. Signature: The specifications are

  • Candidates must draw a rectangular box of size 7 cm × 2 cm (width x height) on an A4 white paper.

  • They must put their signature with black or dark blue ink within this box.

  • They must get the signature digitally image scanned by a professional using a scanner, and get the image cropped to the box

  • The scanned file should be only JPEG image format

  • The maximum pixel resolution for the image is 560 × 160 and the minimum pixel resolution is 280 × 80.

How to Fill the JAM Application Form 2016: Candidates must follow the following stages

1. Registration at JAPS: Click here to register

  • Candidates must enter their Name (as per their SSC/Matriculation/Class X Certificate)

  • They must enter a valid Email ID and mobile Number

  • They must choose a password for their log in.

  • Note: Password should be 8 to 15 characters long.

After submitting this information, candidates will receive their JAM 2016 Enrolment ID via Email and SMS.


2. Filling in the JAM 2016 Application Form:

  • Candidates must log in using their JAM 2016 Enrolment ID or their Email ID and the password registered earlier.

  • Candidates must click on Edit Application to fill and complete their JAM 2016 Application Form.

Candidates must fill the following Details:

1. Exam Details:

  • No of Papers

  • Test Papers

  • Exam Cities: Candidates have to choose 3 exam centres from the list provided

2. Applicant’s Personal Details:

  • Enrolment ID- comes automatically from registration details

  • Name- comes automatically from registration details

  • Email- comes automatically from registration details

  • Mobile No- comes automatically from registration details

  • Date of Birth

  • Gender

  • Name of Parent/Guardian

  • Nationality

  • Category

  • Persons with Disability

3.Communication Details:

Candidates must enter their Address, Pin Code and other requisite information.

In addition they must also fill the ID Proof as well as the ID Proof No -

The ID proof can be anyone of the following:

  • College issued identity card

  • Passport

  • Driving license

  • PAN card

  • Voter ID

  • Aadhar card

Note: Candidates must carry this ID Proof in original along with the JAM 2016 Admit Card to the exam hall.

4. Qualifying Degree Details: Candidates need to fill their qualifying degree details, year of passing, percentage obtained; University/College details

5. Upload Photograph and Signature:

  • Candidates must upload the photograph and signature as per the specifications detailed at the start of this page.

  • Note: Category and PwD candidates have to upload the Category Certificate and Pwd Certificate respectively.

3. Payment of the JAM 2016 Application Fee: Candidates can pay via Echallan or online via Net Banking/Debit/Credit Cards

Challan Payment:

  • Candidates have to download and print the SBI Challan.

  • Candidates must use it to pay the Application fee at the nearest SBI branch.

  • Candidates must ensure that the Challan is stamped by the bank officer.

  • The payment status will be updated with 72 hours of payment.

  • After the payment status is updated, candidates must upload the scanned copy of the Institute’s copy of the SBI Challan duly stamped after payment.It should be in JPEG or PDF format


  • If the amount has been debited from your account but payment is unsuccessful,wait for 72 hrs before attempting to pay again.

  • If you had paid multiple times,the excess amount would be refunded within five working days.


4. Downloading the JAM 2016 Application Form: Candidates can log in and download their JAM 2016 Application form in PDF format to safe keep for future reference.

is mathematics mandatory for iit jam entrance exam if I have done my bsc in biology

iit jam exam is conducted to take admission in M.Sc. (Two Years), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, and other Post-UG Degrees Programmes at the IITs of India and Integrated PhD Degree Programmes at IISc, Bangalore.

The eligibility of mathematics at class 10+2 level depend on course in which you want to take admission. For example if you want to take admission to Joint M.Sc.- Ph.D. in Molecular Medical Microbiology for this courses it is not necessary that  you have math at 10+2 level. However for the course  M.Sc.- Ph.D. Dual Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering it is compulsory to have mathematics at 10+2 level.

can a pure PCB student attempt IIT JAM ?

Hi Aditi,

Yes, a pure PCB student can attempt IIT JAM Examination.

IIT-JAM is an entrance exam conducted by different IITs every year for admission of students in the M.Sc. program in any of the discipline in which you have pursued Bachelor's of Science.

For a GEN/OBC student 55%, or 5.55 out of 10 aggregate marks in their qualifying degree are required to attempt IIT JAM.

For a SC/ST/PWD student 50%, or 5.0 out of 10 aggregate marks in their qualifying degree  are required to attempt IIT JAM.

As mentioned above, if you have done your B.Sc through Biology subjects than also you can attempt IIT JAM and take admission for M.Sc. Biotechnology and Joint M.Sc.- Ph.D. in Atmosphere and Ocean Sciences and many more.

Moreover, the more M.Sc. courses are available for a Mathematics student.

how to prepare for iit jam for msc in iit?

Hello Aditi,

To prepare for IIT jam, you should be well aware of exam pattern and syllabus.

IIT JAM entrance exam is held in computer-based mode, in two sessions - Session 1 and Session 2. The JAM exam 2020 includes three sections - Section A, Section B, Section C. Total questions that will be asked are 60 for a total of 100 marks. Candidates may note that questions will be of multiple-choice and numerical answer type questions.

Since there are many topics, the candidates will be needed to make a table dividing the topics and subjects and allowing them a specific amount of time to go through.

Prepare notes - Preparing notes, both short and long, will help a lot in revising the topics at the end or whenever it is needed.

Keep exam pattern in mind - The candidates must learn in a smart way by dedicating most of their to the topics which carry more marks. The candidates are suggested to make a priority list, giving those topics the utmost priority which carries more marks than others.
