When more and more academic institutions in our country need more labs and investment in research, Deen Dayal Upadhayaya College boasts of its research and publications. Not only this, but the institute attributes its 13th rank in NIRF Rankings 2018 to research, faculty, labs, publications and industry-tie ups. In a candid interview with Meha Mathur, Acting Principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Delhi, Dr Hem Chand Jain wears his heart on his sleeve to share what distinguished the college and about the challenges to be dealt with.
Careers360: Your college has been ranked 13th in the NIRF rankings of 2018. In fact, you have surpassed several old and well-reputed colleges. What factors would you ascribe for such a high rank?
Dr Hem Chand Jain: I would give credit to the faculty. They devote a lot of time to students, and to research. They have written a large number of papers. In the NIRF ranking one strong area for the college was research and publications. Each department has a research lab and students can take advantage of the research being done by teachers in a number of projects. We scored well there. These are the reasons we have picked up so quickly.
College Comparison based on Courses, Placement, Rank, Fee
Careers360: What are the other strengths of the college?
Dr Hem Chand Jain: Our college has a large number of Science courses and there are numerous opportunities for students to interact with students of other disciplines. There is a lot of interdisciplinarity. Besides academics we have a full-year plan for seminars, workshops and other events and students are actively involved in this.
We also have several industry tie-ups for short-term courses so that students can get additional knowledge and skills.
Careers360: How would you describe the placements at the end of graduation?
Dr Hem Chand Jain: We do invite companies for placement. One issue that any undergrad programme in any college would have is that most students want to pursue post graduation. It’s not like engineering which can be a terminal degree. But even then, those who want to go for placement, we facilitate that process.
Careers360: What are the challenges that the college faces?
Dr Hem Chand Jain: Maintaining the standards is a challenge. We have been ranked 13th in NIRF and it is a challenge to maintain that standard. And we have a huge campus and the buildings are air-conditioned. The recurring cost for maintenance each year is Rs 5 crore. That again is a huge challenge.
This is mainly a question of your interest. However if you're unsure about that you can choose BMS since it has more opportunities for placement. Both KMV and Shree Guru Gobind are excellent colleges for the courses and have hardly any difference in quality of college.
DDUC is in Dwarka, so it might involve lot of travel but there are many who travel even more. Getting hostel is surely difficult for Delhi people. It is upto you to weigh all these factors like course, location etc and take final decision.
All the best!
With this composite score, I am sorry but there is not a high chance for you to get BMS in DDUC or KMV.
I would be able to help you more if you would mention your rank and category along with the composite score. You can comment down below your rank or visit https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/du-jat-cutoff to get information regarding the branchwise DU JAT cutoffs for different colleges in the previous years.
I will also say that the cutoffs vary every year depending on the number of candidates, their rank, the number of seats available, etc.
Hope that helped.
You haven't mentioned your category as it plays an important role so considering you of unreserved category I would like to tell you that the closing rank of DDU was 244 and 266 of KM.

As your query is you want to take admission in graduation college and you are confused in between St. Xavier College Ranchi or Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College Delhi University.
I would like to tell you that it all depends upon the choice of your course, but more often I would suggest you that , you should go with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and the reason why I am saying so :
The choice at end is upto you but in my opinion Delhi University would be the best choice to go with .
I hope your query is solved.
